Schumer pans McCarthy’s one-year debt-ceiling extension as ‘terrible idea’

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Monday panned Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) proposal to extend the nation’s debt ceiling until May of 2024 as a “terrible idea,” making it clear to everyone in Washington that Democrats don’t want to debate the issue again before the next election.

McCarthy formally unveiled his proposal to lift the debt ceiling for one year in exchange for a cap on non-defense discretionary spending and other reforms in a speech Monday to the New York Stock Exchange.

Suggestion: Start dismantling federal departments and agencies at the rate of one per month. Begin with whichever one was most recently created and then work back in order.

The Democrats will run out the clock rather than do a large scale deal.

Start with a bill offering a small (by DC standards) debt limit increase ($20 billion?) with a small savings trade (say by having a 10% minimum PPACA policy premium contribution [instead of 2%]).

Asking Miss Democrat to pay $50/month while Miss Republican has to pay the full $500/month is more than reasonable.

Debt limit increases should be balanced with spending cuts valued over a five-year period.

Paying say $200/month on top of a housing voucher for a DC area apartment is absurd.

Add 10% of the rent to the existing housing voucher co-pays.

Mark Methadone would then have to pay $380/month for his $1800/month apartment.

Even at over $100,000/year per DC bureaucrat, federal payroll is a small percentage of the federal budget.

Speaker McCarthy, Stick to your guns and you can guarantee a Republican House, Senate and Whitehouse in 2024. You will bring back the disaffected GOP voters of years past. Cave, and you’ll lose them and more for good.

It’s really that simple.

Want a budget, Mr. Biden and Chuckles? Take the White House budget, subtract 10 percent from EVERY line item, and send it back. That would be a reasonable starting position of negotiations.

Is 10 per cent the best haircut? Propose another value. But apply it equally across the board. To start.

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Post-17th Amendment ratification Schumer probably has no reasonable explanation as to why he has voted to help pass many constitutionally indefensible federal spending bills imo.

In other words, probably most of the US debt is based on unconstitutional, unaccountable federal taxing and spending.

Democratic and Republican patriots need to primary ALL career state and federal lawmakers and executives in 2024.
