Joy, Vindication and Anxiety: Democrats Absorb a Consequential Moment
The New York Times via Yahoo ^ | March 31, 2023 | by Katie Glueck and Reid J. Epstein

In some ways, it was the turn of events that Democratic voters had dreamed of and some of the party’s lawmakers had long demanded: After years of telling lies, shattering norms, inciting a riot at the Capitol and being impeached twice, Donald Trump on Thursday became the first former president to face criminal charges.

But as the gravity of the moment sank in, Democratic voters, party officials and activists across the country absorbed the news of Trump’s extraordinary indictment with a more complex set of reactions. Their feelings ranged from jubilation and vindication to anxieties about the substance of the case, concerns that it could heighten Trump’s standing in his party and fears that in such a polarized environment, Republicans would struggle to muster basic respect for the rule of law as the facts unfolded.

In Littleton, New Hampshire, Bernd Weber, 65, a dentist, said he was glad the grand jury had voted to indict Trump, but he worried about the former president’s ability to “spin it to make it look like a witch hunt, and there are people that are buying that.”

“There were any number of things that he could have been indicted for, and this was probably the least of them,” he said.

Other Democrats made clear that while they welcomed this indictment, they believed that Trump should be held accountable for far more.

“No one is above the law,” Rep. Barbara Lee, a liberal California lawmaker now running for Senate, wrote on Twitter. “Now do the rest of his crimes.”

And then when it all turns into a giant pile of steaming BS, they will simply try something else. “We know that last thing didn’t work - HE WEASELED OUT OF IT SOMEHOW - but now we’re ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY SURE THAT WE’VE GOT HIM THIS TIME.”

“There were any number of things that he could have been indicted for”

But nobody can name even one.

Trump allegedly paid a stripper $300K.

Biden took in millions of dollars in bribery money from China and Ukraine.

Thus the left must go after Trump.

In reality these clowns realize how desperate they are, they know this indictment will lead no where, they can pretend to be “vindicated” but a reboot of settled case law isnt going to work out well for them.

These idiots haven’t figured out that the end of the rule-of-law for the people they hate is the end of the rule-of-law for them, too.

They aren’t going to like what comes next.

I'm old enough to remember when Rapin Bill Clinton committed felony perjury and felony obstruction of justice in the face of a Federal judge.

There wasn't even a question about it - a slam-dunk case.

But our garbage third-world "justice" system didn't do a thing about it...

“In some ways, it was the turn of events that MAGA voters had dreamed of and some of the party’s lawmakers had long demanded: After years of telling lies, shattering norms, inciting riots around the country and being investigated for a server in the bathroom, Hillary Clinton on Thursday became the first former secretary of state to face criminal charges.”

As the late Rushbo said on numerous occasions, it will never happen—but it happens to Trump.

I hate what the left has done to America. There is only one way to get it back, everyone knows what it is, but no one can say it openly.

No. That is what the skank had to pay Trump.

"Biden could be indicted for any number of things….. pedophelia, harboring a fugitive, classified docs, etc…"

Yep. If the GOP was a viable party, there would have been a number of state AGs ready to charge Biden, Obama, the two Clintons and Soros with legitimate charges the day Bragg indicted Trump.

"Their feelings ranged from jubilation and vindication to anxieties about the substance of the case, concerns that it could heighten Trump’s standing in his party and fears that in such a polarized environment, Republicans would struggle to muster basic respect for the rule of law as the facts unfolded."

The basic premise behind the bolded part is the implication that 'anyone who votes Republican doesn't respect the rule of law' (subtext: whatever "we" say the law happens to be that day)

If there is any signal that the time for playing nice is over, that is it.

SOVIETISM is a pretty good word too.

What is being done to Trump right now in an attempt to eliminate his presidential candidacy, is exactly what Putin’s neo-soviet administration does to any opposition leaders in Russia. They are all sent to prison. Or worse... they fall out of windows... many, many of them end that way...

SOVIETISM slowly comes to America... indicting a presidential candidate for political reasons is the proof of that.

“...Democratic voters had dreamed of and some of the party’s lawmakers had long demanded...”

This is telling, I think of where we are as a nation. Democrats now believe that defying them and beating them in an election is a criminal act that must be punished. And too notice that if we object to any of this, it is we who will be struggling “to muster basic respect for the rule of law...”

I guess this answers Tucker’s question about where are the sensible democrats who understand the damage this is doing to the country. There aren’t any. Hell where is the republican leadership denouncing this? Mitch, Mitt, Lindsay, Lisa, Susan, we’re waiting.

Under their rule, the rule of law is whatever they say it is. They are not worried. I haven’t seen ANY progressives or Leftist indicted for anything. I seriously doubt even in conservative TN anyone will go to jail for the attack on the capitol. They are not concerned. Their finger lies heavily on the scales.

Yes what about the Tennessee capital? We have been told that mobs of people in a capitol building is an attempt to overthrow the government.

So why isn’t the same standard being applied to mobs of people who went inside the Tennessee Capitol Building, has was applied to the people who went in the US capitol on January 6th?
