Lukashenko: Russia could put intercontinental missiles in Belarus if necessary

President Alexander Lukashenko said on Friday that Russia, which has already decided to station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, could if necessary put intercontinental nuclear missiles there too.

In an annual address to lawmakers and government officials, Lukashenko said Moscow's plans to station nuclear arms on the territory of its close ally would help protect Belarus, which he said was under threat from the West.

"I am not trying to intimidate or blackmail anyone. I want to safeguard the Belarusian state and ensure peace for the Belarusian people," Lukashenko said.

Although Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday that the tactical missiles would remain under Moscow's control, Lukashenko suggested he could use them with Russia's agreement if Belarus was threatened with destruction.

He also raised the prospect of deploying strategic nuclear weapons - intercontinental ballistic missiles that can destroy whole cities from thousands of miles away - on Belarusian soil.

Lukashenko said Belarus had enough conventional weapons to counter threats, "but if we see that behind (the threats) lies the destruction of our country, we will use everything we have".

"If necessary, Putin and I will decide and bring in strategic weapons - if needed," he said.

Intercontinental? So the potential target isn’t Ukraine.

Sounds more like London is begging for the Hiroshima treatment to me.

Its both funny and pathetic how you puff your chest about confronting and killing "RuZZians," issue silly threats, boast continuously how they will be destroyed and defeated.

And when someone points out a logical, and deadly, consequences to the West of such attitudes and actions, you go all "how dare you talk about violence!"

Such childishness is a common theme among the war-Zeepers here.

So just to be clear, you're A-OK with destroying western cities as well as Ukrainian cities, right?

“because they need to be 500 miles closer to the US???”

The dumbest part is that Belarus isn’t even closer to the US. ICBMs targeting the US would fly over the arctic circle to hit us, not to the west.

Russia has many thousands of nuclear weapons in Europe, and many of the nations in Europe only escaped Russian enslavement fairly close to the time that the Clintons were heading for the White House.

I believe Putin is making these announcements because he wants people to stop talking about how the big Russian winter attack collapsed without achieving anything.
