Police said that a wheelchair-bound military veteran told them he shot a teenager who was trying to rob him in downtown Houston, Texas.
The incident unfolded near the intersection of Main Street and Pierce Street near the Downtown Transit Center at about 9 p.m. Monday night.
The Houston Police Department said that the 18-year-old suspect ran up to the veteran and tried to steal his bag as he was heading to the transit center.
“He is a veteran and he was in the area to catch a metro back to his residence,” said Lt. J.P Horelica to KPRC-TV.
Police said the veteran told them he pulled out a firearm and shot the attempted robber multiple times.
“Suspect ran several hundred yards where he collapsed and was picked up by the Houston Fire Department, treated and transported to a local area hospital,” Horelica added.
The suspect was last reported to be in stable condition and is expected to recover.
The veteran stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
Officials have not said whether anyone will face any charges over the altercation, but they said that once the suspect is well enough to speak with them that they will file charges.

When I was a kid I would watch men with no legs rolling along the sidewalks of downtown Houston on those flat rollers down on the ground like Eddie Murphy in the no-legs scene, don’t know whether they were veterans or not, but it was a sad sight, things have sure improved along those lines.

Unless his wheelchair was built by Tim Taylor I doubt that he was going to speed away from the scene.
