Concerns over a Chinese invasion of Taiwan continue to mount with Beijing now suspected of involvement in damaging some of the island nation's undersea internet cables this week in another show of deliberate harassment. The disruption to Taiwan’s internet was not only a nuisance for the island’s inhabitants and visitors, it also revealed significant implications for Taiwan's national security.

biden would have zero issues flushing a few carrier groups then feign outrage.
traitors aren’t trying to help America.
China is more worried about what Japan can and will do to them than they are worried about what the senile old pants pooper in the White House will do.
Japan is changing their defense posture from defense to being able to strike and decapitate China’s military and political leadership. The Japanese see the Chinese threat for what it is and they’re not playing.
Aren’t there about 5,000 sailors to a carrier? That would be a terrible loss.
It was a pro-CCP group of six guys and a yacht...
True that.
7,000 miles away from home is quite a disadvantage.
when your top priorities are climate change and white supremacy, every serious military has the advantage over you
Correct. Logistics wins wars. Distance complicates logistics.
Incredibly, I can remember Richard Nixon discussing Quemoy and Matsu in the 1960 Nixon-Kennedy televised debate!
Comrade Xi has duly noted what happened to the vaunted Russian military when it invaded Ukraine. Success is not guaranteed if he invades Taiwan with his combat inexperienced military of “one child” soldiers armed with untested locally produced equipment. If Taiwan puts up a formidable resistance (If the Taiwanese are willing to fight for their freedom and human rights is the great unknown), The Chinese might take huge casualties. This would create political turmoil in China. Xi, his family and sycophants would suffer greatly. The military may create a coup against “corruption” ( the CCP). Very much doubt Xi, despite some pressure, will invade Taiwan.

I also remember that moment.
I bet we are loading up Guam and Okinawa…and South Korea.
I imagine there are a few hypersonic missiles targeted at Long Beach, San Diego, Seattle, and San Fran.
That would certainly open some eyes. We are not defending Taiwan without feeling some hurt. (And, unlike the Japanese, the Chinese won’t miss the oil tanks in Hawaii.)
It would take about 20 cruise missiles and two WWII class subs to knock out 80% of their oil supply. China is big, but they have some exposure.
DF-26 Carrier Killer missiles that have a range of up to 2500 miles. Direct, overhead close targeted attack. Very hard to defend from. Ground launched and air launched versions.

Besides what you noted, if China invaded it would immediately lose two important foreign markets, the United States and the EU. Plus all Chinese assets in the United States would seized. Maybe we’d even cancel the US bonds China is holding.
So I agree with you. Too much downside for China there. The only wild card is the Chinese national pride angle.
That contest with Taiwan is a feint. Why would China want to destroy that island’s economic infrastructure? They are getting ready to come after the United States. China sent the reconnaissance balloon over the United States, not Taiwan.
for all we know China could wipe out our navy, knock out our infrastructure and bankrupt our USD dominance in the aftermath and leave the USA a divided bickering smoking pile of confused rubble.
The USA is in decline and China is on the rise.
Great civilizations never last and hate to say it but the USA has been "asking for it" for quite a while with this crap like Ukraine
What effect would the West bombing the Three Gorges dam complex have upon the course and outcome of a war over Taiwan?
Would it requite a tactical nuke to reliably destroy it or can conventional bombs do it without possibility of repairing or salvaging it?
Would they escalate or respond with an EMP attack on the CONUS?
Anti-satellite warfare in space to come into play?
So many questions...
