The rookie quarterback who has surprised NFL observers by guiding the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC Championship says his Christian faith has given him peace and confidence amidst the spotlight.
Rookie Brock Purdy started the season as the 49ers' third-string quarterback but became the starter in early December due to a string of injuries, guiding his team to an undefeated December.
On Sunday, he led his team to a 19-12 victory over rival Dallas in the playoffs and into an NFC Championship game at Philadelphia. The winner goes to the Super Bowl.
Purdy, who played at Iowa State, is 7-0 as a starter. The 49ers have won 12 straight games.
"I'm very thankful," Purdy said after the game Sunday.
Despite playing less than half the season, Purdy is being mentioned as a candidate for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy is "definitely the most poised rookie I've ever had."
After his first victory as quarterback in December, Purdy was asked if he plays with a sense of "fearlessness." Purdy said he does.
"You go out there, you prepare as best you can, you get better every single day at practice, and once you get your opportunity, it's what are you going to do with it?" he said. "For me, I believe in the Lord, and I trust in Him. I just go out there, and I just play?"

Purdy, as QB at Iowa State, played Oklahoma whose QB was Jalen Hurts.
Purdy threw 5 TD passes and came with a 2-pt conversion of upsetting Oklahoma.

As I said in another thread, it’s very hard not to love this story. Rookie, nice, polite, religious kid... dead-last pick in the NFL draft... dead-freakin-last. He improbably comes off the bench and plays great, leading his team to victory in game after game, and now to the NFC championship. You’d have to be a very jaded not to be rooting for this guy.
And throw ingredients mostly dink and dunk passes. Besides he was rattled at 1st. 1 pass was almost picked off.

And Purdy was their 3rd string QB. Lance, the Niners first round draft pick in 2021 started the season but was injured in week 2, then backup QB Garoppolo took over, only to be injured himself in week 13, bringing out rookie 3rd stringer Brock Purdy. It’s going to be interesting to see who ends up starting at QB next season. The Veteran, the Heir Apparent or the Cinderella Story...

Purdy, from Iowa State; Josh Allen from Wyoming; Dak Prescott, mississippi State; Brett Favre, Southern Mississippi; Jimmy Garappolo,, Eastern Illinois; Ben Rothlisberger, Miami of Ohio. Lots of talent in second tier programs, if you look for it.
That's insane, especially after the clock self-destruct by Dallas in last year's matchup. The Cowboys did it again this time, wasting tongs of time on the clock before the final drive.

I’m just so glad to see Purdy leading the 49ers and not Lance who wore a helmet with the Black Lives Matter on it. Garoppolo is a very good QB, but Purdy has just been amazing. I am not a 49ers fan. Purdy has cost me betting money, but his story is just amazing.
