In an attempt to decarbonize the environment, the Milwaukie City Council recently voted 3-2 to ban gas piping from connecting to new residential buildings after March 1, 2024, and unanimously approved a measure to begin replacing gas systems in city buildings with electrical energy, according to the Portland Business Journal. The decisions, which outraged NW Natural officials, follow a ban on natural gas in new residential buildings adopted four months ago by city officials in Eugene. The region’s largest natural gas utility expressed disappointment in the lack of scientific analysis and public engagement before the vote to remove an energy option from residents. Eugene recenlty debated limiting natural gas in new housing units.
As many Oregonians are under extreme ice conditions this weekend, it is important to note that 20x more people die from excessive cold than excessive heat. Natural gas is not only a good lower carbon alternative but it is also an additional heating/power source when electricity goes down.

In an area known for the abundance of hydro power, I’m waiting for brown-outs as natgas is outlawed and dams are busted to save salmon. There won’t be enough lecky to go around.

These failed Democrat cities have no choice but to ban gas. Their gas line infrastructure is over a century old and they have no money to upgrade it.

But the Cory council already have established homes so they’re not effected by ban.
Hydro is bad because of fish. Geothermal is bad because of toads. All fossil fuels are bad because of mother earth. Wood is bad because of smoke. Nuclear power is bad, just because. Windmills are OK (despite the dead birds) unless they spoil an ocean view. Solar is wonderful, except for night.
We are bad because we need to be warm in winter and prefer to be cool in summer. The Canadian health service has some ideas on how to fix this.

I was just forced to move in to an all electric home this year. Sure enough the earthquake hit and all electrical is a freezing home. Lucky I used propane to heat sporadically but it’s a very foolish thing to do. Natural gas is natural.
They are totalitarian communists that do not care for the welfare of people or the freedom of people to choose in a capitalist market. There’s only one good type of Commie. I seriously mean that and have no qualms in saying it given their history of murder of millions in the 20th century. It is a matter of survival.
These people are insane. NG is the cleanest burning fuel on the planet and we have enough for a thousand years. The stupidity of pushing it out to switch to electric heat is beyond ridiculous
