Earlier this month, President Joe Biden showed up at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit to announce spending $900 million to build about 500,000 charging stations across dozens of states, CBS News reported.
The first tranche of $900 million — out of $5 billion in infrastructure money over five years — will be used to build electric vehicle chargers in 35 states.
The chargers will be found across 53,000 miles of highway with the goal of promoting electric vehicle use.
"The great American road trip is going to be fully electrified,” Bident said to a crowd of autoworkers and supporters. “Whether you're driving coast to coast along I-10, or on I-75 here in Michigan, charging stations will be up and as easy to find as gas stations are now.”
Carmakers have ramped up efforts to make more electric vehicles — in April, Ford started building electric pickup trucks at a new Michigan factory and said last September it would build the next generation of electric pickups at a plant in Tennessee, CBS News reported.
General Motors is using an old factory in Detroit to make electric Hummers and pickups, and it announced EV assembly plants in Lansing, Michigan; Spring Hill, Tennessee; and Orion Township, Michigan.
They’re also making batteries — a government loan will help GM build its battery factories, while a GM battery plant in Warren, Ohio, has already started manufacturing.
Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler, said in May that it would build another joint venture battery factory in Indiana, and it has announced a battery plant in Canada, CBS News reported.
None of this addresses the issue of price: Most EVs are more expensive than gas powered vehicles, with the average price recently hitting $66,000, whereas gasoline-powered cars average $48,043.
While various tax credits are available for buyers of EVs, the price is still staggering. For people struggling to pay their bills amid high inflation, the price puts EVs completely out of reach.
Sure, because that will make evacuations from natural disasters so much ‘greener’...smh.
This is so lacking in vision. What, you’re going to have parking lots of chargers with people waiting hours instead of minutes at a gas station? It’s stupid is what it is.
Until we standardize on a quick change battery to meet the time it takes to fill a tank, this isn’t going to be practical.
Of course they don’t want it phased in, they want chaos and turmoil to grab more power.

They mean Biden looted the taxpayers of 5 billion for charges for these short range, minimum load electric appliance vehicles.
Democrats are like a old style square riggged sailing ship whose capatain orders a course of 180 degress due south with no deviation, when the wind is coming from 180 degrees due south.
All you do is go backwards.

Pay for it yourself.
Subsidized technology for individual purchase products is always a failure.
If it’s worth having - and really saves money - people will buy the product without a subsidy.
Chargers needed to be at places where travelers eat and sleep.
They need to installed and run by private businesses.
Who will own and maintain them after they are built?
The Tesla salesmen here should volunteer.
Hope they’re solar-powered and wind-powered!

I think it’s worse than that. Deep down, they don’t want us driving anything, including EV cars.
The problems people like you and I point out are real. The resulting inefficiencies if everyone owned EVs the way we do ICEs are staggering. The Davos crowd knows this, too. A point will be reached after ICEs are banned but EVs are still not common where they will “solve” thd problem by making We the People take public transportation in lithium torch-buses. And by then, they won’t care if they’re death traps. The Davos crowd won’t be joining We the People in those things.
I don’t think we’ll ever have enough wind and solar to power a nation of EVs. If coal, biofuels, and even natural gas are banned, they’ll have to bring back nuclear reactors to generate the needed reserves of energy for EVs. IMHO.
I envision plazas built at existing interstate rest stops.
