Two days before a maniac stabbed to death a veteran EMT lieutenant and grandmother in Astoria on Thursday, defund-the-police-promoting Queens Councilwoman Tiffany Caban and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani released a “public safety” guide discouraging merchants from calling the cops.
The guide from the two Democrats urges small business owners to dial 311, seek mental health services for people with mental illnesses, and engage in “community mediation” instead of calling 911 to summon the police when there is trouble in many cases.
It also advises merchants to “give the person causing harm the chance to correct their behavior” before seeking intervention.
“Say `no’, `Stop”’, or `That is not Okay,'” the guide says.
“We’re distributing them to local businesses, so our neighborhood is equipped with better ways of solving problems than simply summoning police every time a challenge arises,” Caban tweeted on Sept. 27 while circulating the “Small Business Public Safety Resources Guide.
”Caban said her office “collaborated” with Mamdani, who retweeted her tweet about the guide the same day.
Merchants in the Long Island City-Astoria area and law enforcement advocates slammed the “public safety” guide as irresponsibly endangering lives.
“At a time when we just lost an FDNY member and crime is still rampant, we should be supporting the police — not pushing them away,” said Eric Benaim, CEO, of Modern Space Realty.
Giana Cerbone, owner of Manducatis Rustica restaurant on Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City said: “Are you kidding me?!… Who does she want us to call, Ghostbusters [reference to 1984 comedy film].?!”

She was such a beautiful person.
Sounds a bit like “snitches get stitches”.
Wow I know Giana Cerbone. My late wife and I used to go to Manducatis almost weekly.
Victim blaming and a veiled threat for the future - it's a two-fer!
Call 311 on the pols.
At what point do you call 911 when you’re getting stabbed, after you say no, after you say this is not OK, after you say please stop? How many times do I have to get staff before I can call? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Live it up in the dumpster fire you helped create, liberal NYC voters.
(“Say `no’, `Stop”’, or `That is not Okay,’” the guide says.)
Yeah that probably would have worked really well on the Manson Family gang.
hell they just arrested that FPOS that attacked Chapelle for stabbing the roommate...
I wonder how lengthy this guy’s criminal and psychiatric record is. He has a history of schizophrenia. It’s Andrew Cuomo and Governor Hochul who are to blame for these people being out on the street. Andrew Cuomo, and his father before him, emptied the psych centers of psychotic patients, and tossed them onto the streets. Hochul as Cuomo’s Lieutenant Governor condoned it. Many of them ended up in the State’s prison system, and many convicts were released back into the street because of Covid, not being required to complete their court determined sentences. Governor Hochul closed six New York State prisons this past spring, dumping convicts back onto the street. I’m sure plenty of them have psychiatric needs. Liberal politicians kill. They all have blood on their hands, from coast to coast.
(“Say `no’, `Stop”’, or `That is not Okay,’” the guide says.)
As Lieutenant Frank Drebbin said,
“I can’t hear you! Don’t fire the gun while you’re talking!!”
If you don’t call the cops, who is supposed to draw the chalk outline(s)?
*maniac stabs me*
“Sir that is not ok! The systemic white oppression that…”
*maniac stabs me again*
“Sir! Sir! I hereby officially request that you refrain!”
*maniac stabs me again*
“You have left me no choice sir! I am now calling 311 so that we can engage in mutually beneficial mediation!!”
I was going to suggest “pew-pew” mediation.
Though someone told me it’s better to use a 9mm. It will blow a lung clean out of their body, dontcha know.
Charge/sue them with being accessories before the fact, malfeasance of office and get rid of them politically, forever.
Or list where they live!
