Rushdie on ventilator and may lose an eye, agent says Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator, unable to speak, and may lose an eye, his agent told Reuters and the New York Times.

“The news is not good,” Andrew Wylie, Rushdie’s agent, said Friday evening. “Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed; and his liver was stabbed and damaged.”

It’s a damned shame that a writer, even a controversial one, might be risking his life by giving a speech at a literary event. There probably should have been tighter security, but it’s a damned shame that it is needed. Prayers for his recovery and that we don’t see more of this.
