A Russian lawmaker called for Lithuania's independence to be repealed, submitting a draft bill claiming the Baltic republic illegally left the Soviet Union more than three decades ago.
The proposed legislation was submitted to the Russian lower house, the Duma, on Wednesday by Yevgeny Fyodorov, a member of the ruling United Russia party.
In March 1990, Lithuania became the first republic to announce it intended to restore its independence from the disintegrating USSR, under whose control it had been for five decades after the Soviet army occupied it in 1940.

Legislation written by one Russian extremist politician (Yevgeny Fyodorov) does not represent Russia / Putin’s plan. This may be relevant If we heard this from the majority of their Parliament. But, it’s just one guy known for being over the top.
It’s not Putin’s position. It’s the position of a single extremist politician. That’s it. It means nada. His name is Yevgeny Fyodorov. You can thank him.

Lithuanian strings don’t need to be pulled by anyone. The Lithuanians (and the Latvians, the Estonians and the Polish) hate Russia with a passion. Why don’t you ask why they do? Why do you view the situation in Eastern Europe only from the Russian perspective? Do you know anything about the history of Eastern Europe? About Russia subjugating its neighboring nations? About sending their elites to Siberia?
It is really puzzling that some Freepers who supposedly love the concept of limited government and the separation of powers are rooting for a country that has ALWAYS had a despotic government and never abandoned its imperialist ambitions.
Or perhaps the whole thing has been orchestrated once more.

Of course it should, or at least it should be given some independent status. But now it’s part of Mother Russia, don’t you understand? It’s vital to their national security interests. And it’s always been part of Russia (well since 1945, but who’s counting?).
