I’m just making the point that some ethnic cleansing is a-ok with the pro-putin crowd around here, while the reciprocal is verboten. Ukrainians managed to live side-by-side speaking both languages just fine until putin’s little green men arrived in 2014 and started the invasion.
I guess what Westerners don’t seem to fully comprehend (although they are learning it now) is that Russia considers Ethnic Russians and Russian-Language speakers to also be worthy of defending. And it’s understandable that we haven’t yet figured it out, as we still have 1000 or so Americans trapped and abandoned in Afghanistan, and had the same happen with our allies around the world, since WW2.
So, for 24 years, things were fine in Ukraine, and PUTIN didn’t do anything cute, even though he could have, easily.
But things changed for the Russians there, as the Azovs went on the offensive and PUTIN had to decide whether to let the the Russians be massacred and/or driven out of their homelands (where they go back hundreds of years), or defend his fellow Russians. And, unlike Biden (who supports this ethnic cleansing), PUTIN defends his ‘country-mates’.

You need to educate yourself on the language laws and decrees the Ukrainian regime enacted prior to that. If the Canadian government enacted similar anti-French laws that would apply in Quebec the Québécois would rapidly have an armed insurrection to secede from Canada.

As far as Finland and Sweden go, God only knows what they’re thinking. Finland agreed to be neutral during the Cold War, and was never attacked (and the Soviets were much more aggressive than Russia) and Finland prospered. Sweden somewhat similar.
Now they have the worst of both worlds, as they’re no longer neutral but are find the door slammed in their faces, due to legitimate Turkish concerns. They must feel like TOTAL IDIOTS in doing what the Neocons, obviously, demanded.

I frankly. do not care who wins in this conflict. I am just against any of America's resources being deployed to keep ratcheting up the conflict. The real losers are the Ukrainian people. So, do not come at me like you are some sort of saintlier than thou douche canoe. The Ukrainians have been trying to cleanse the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of ethnic Russians ever since 2014. That’s one of the justifications Putin used for his invasion.
There is a real “so what” that stems from this article and others that document Ukrainian attitudes. As has been documented frequently here on FR, there have been real divisions in Ukraine between the predominately Russian speaking east and Ukrainian speaking west.
However, being attacked and fighting a war of national survival tends to minimize other differences within a population. Mr. Putin’s war is managing to narrow these differences and solidifying a Ukrainian identity across the country. Regardless of the military outcome, Mr. Putin is driving a permanent wedge between these two peoples.
Ukrainians will have a deep and abiding hate for Russia and Russians for a very long time.
The Ukrainians should all learn English when they become a commonwealth Member or US Territory. They will be good hard working citizens for the new Empire. Great places to vacation on the Black Sea. Put some Casinos on Snake Island.
This totally explains why 3 Eastern Ukraine states seceded from Ukraine after the Revolution and have been fighting a war of Independence for the last 8 years against the Kiev Government!

Ukraine gave up the nukes in their possession in exchange for sovereignty, not in exchange for guarantees of territorial integrity. Neither Russia nor America were willing to recognize Ukraine as an independent nation until they agreed to become a non-nuclear nation.
