The author is an idiot.
Guns from either World War are “20th century” guns.
Also, any Boy Scout is glad to drink from a pond, as they have cheap filters to handle it.
The Mosin NAgant was developed in the 19th century.
I wown one. Complete with Bayonet.
It is not unreasonable to call them 19th century rifles.
I just bought a 4-pack at Costco to throw in the prepper closet. Already have a Big Berkey.
Yes, they are 20th Century rifles but not by the basic design. The German K98 carried in WWII was an 1898 design and then shortened and slightly modified when it received its K designation. Even Oswald’s Carcano was an Italian version of the German Mauser.
I would be just as fearful of a select bolt action with a high-quality scope in my enemy’s hands than the latest US M4 version.
The Mosin Nagant rifle was adopted by the Russian army in the 1890’s & is still a potent weapon & is still in use. Ivan generally does not have the water filters or even food /maps/diesel fuel etc.
