Pope Francis: ‘There Is No Such Thing as a Just War!’
American Thinker.com ^ | April 5, 2022 | Raymond Ibrahim

Pope Francis, a leading advocate of Doormat Christianity, is at it again, trying to reverse nearly two millennia of Christian doctrine, by preaching total passivity -- even against violent aggression.

On March 18, 2022, Francis declared before an audience that “A war is always -- always! -- the defeat of humanity, always. We, the educated, who work in education, are defeated by this war, because on another side we are responsible.”

So far, all well and good, if only because such lofty but impotent words are expected. But then he went so far as to say that, “There is no such thing as a just war: they do not exist!”

That is a remarkably dangerous claim, one that, if embraced -- as no doubt it is by millions of similar naïve thinkers -- can easily lead to their annihilation.

There is, indeed, such a thing as a just war -- the only rational way of responding to unjust wars -- and it is firmly grounded in Christian, especially Catholic, teaching, even if the head of the Catholic world argues otherwise.

In fact, from the very start, Christian theologians had concluded that “the so called charity texts of the New Testament that preached passivism and forgiveness, not retaliation, were firmly defined as applying to the beliefs and behavior of the private person [and not the state],” to quote historian Christopher Tyerman.

If there’s no such thing as a just war, how could God command war?

If there is no such thing as a just execution, how could God have commanded stoning?

Is God unjust?

A Pope who never read the Old Testament. Sad.

So war (violence) in defense of family or other innocent victims isn't condoned.

Just stand by and let it happen?

Sometimes this Pope sounds merely like an atheistic communist. Other times he sounds like the village idiot.

Is stopping a genocide justification for war?

Vis., is the Pope condemning Viet Nam for invading Cambodia to put an end to the genocide there (in Cambodia)?

I suppose if we assume there is no genocide, then genocide doesn’t justify war.

Similarly, if we assume there are no capital offenses (e.g., no first degree murders), then there is no justification for capital punishment.

Everything’s easy when you can assume away evil!

Oh, and let’s no forget the temptation to say you are holy and other people aren’t.

The pope is supposed to be a servant, to shepherd the flock, not proclaim his superiority to the flock. We are all called to service. The police and the military, no less than pastors. And, we all face temptations. The pope, Catholic priests, the various pastors of the protestant denominations are not exceptions. We need some realism and we need some humility.

I’m old enough to remember when we had a Pope who had at least a nominal understanding of the catechism, the Scriptures, and the Church Fathers.

Sadly that memory is becoming increasingly remote.

That makes you at least 11, by my way of calculating. Some people have a hard time remembering things that happen while they are young. That said, in my estimation if you are looking for what you claim, the last Pope who would be able to compete with Benedict would be Pius XI, so maybe you are in your late 80’s or beyond?

War is generally unjust because just entry into war is usually based on self-defense. Thus, war in general is unjust, but not necessarily all actions in the war.

Wrong. War to repel an unjust invader is OK.

He’s saying that you must allow an unjust invader to attack and destroy you.
