Whenever they brandish the magic word “extinction” you need to check your wallet. Here’s a clue: they do not mean by “extinction” what you think they mean. To the common man, ie, us, “extinction” means the species will be lost completely from the planet earth and never to be seen again. To the green gestapo, “extinction” means that the species will be eliminated from a designated ecological domain, such as a specific river valley, or a set of foothills, or some other such geographical domain.

The EPA uses this latter artificial definition because they have been colluding with the ngo’s for just about forever. The deal is called “sue and settle.” Some busybodies, like say the World Wildlife Federation, bring suit to the EPA, the EPA agrees with them, issues a restraining order and pays out some generous settlement which finances further malfeasance. And nobody in DC cares. In fact they think it’s cool. And that’s how a toad can defeat a powerful energy corporation.

Should have done wind mills or solar.. that would be OK

Yes, wack eagles to death with wind mill blades, who cares.
Incinerate raptors with solar heat, no problem
Warm up toads and produce real honest to goodness renewable energy that actually does something, No we can’t have that.

Around 1988 I was on a gold exploration drilling project in Dixie Valley, and I remember the jets coming over the rig at about 100’. A big geothermal rig drilled a hole a few miles away during that time. They definitely hit something, because one morning their rig had pulled out and there was a jet of steam from that well that you could hear for miles.

Never noticed any toads around there. Never went to Middlegate Station, either, since I was staying in Fallon and drinking at the Double Eagle.

Things go extinct - better concentrate on keeping humans around instead.

Fallon, NV. In 1978 I was an F4 flight line mechanic and went there for the shootout. Worst dust storm anyone ever saw roared through Fallon and scratched up all the canopy glass. Had to replace everything before the planes could fly again.

“The Center for Biological Diversity and the tribe won a federal court order in Reno in January temporarily blocking construction of Ormat’s project on U.S. Bureau of Land Management land east of Fallon.”

CBD…. it figures.

When do we get listed as endangered enough to tap energy
supplies?

Build a toad hatchery.

They should commercially raise every damn one of any endangered species that is used to control freedom.

The definition of “species” has changed from a collection of organisms which can interbreed with viable offspring, to subgroups of creatures which can interbreed but have local different appearances (phenotypes) from having bred apart for a period of time due to physical separation.

With that new, silly definition almost every cave, watershed, or deep canyon, will have separate “species”, that are not species in the original definition, add little to biosphere genetic diversity. If they were consistent, tribes of humans and breeds of dogs would be separate species. And invertebrates count. So species preservation has become a trump card against almost any development.

Natural Geothermal area, earth quakes, Naval Air Station (Top Gun) are not a problem for the toad, but building another Geothermal Power Plant will? Oh Greenies what did you expect the world to use to get off fossil fuels?

Oh by the way, the Dixie Valley Toad is endangered by Telsa cars, windmills and solar cells.

Also isn't the word Dixie racist?

and which pronouns do we use for the Toad?

The toad needs to hit the road.
Before he begins to glow.
