I still struggled with having it removed, but it ended up working out fine :)
Glad all worked out well for you. Doc wanted to remove mine when I was 16 but my Mom wouldn’t agree to it. Guess mine ended up working out fine too, lol.
I’m glad your mom fought for you! 16 seems crazy young for that. I was quite a few years older than 16 when it all happened. My bloodwork thyroid levels were always “normal” but I must have had the Hashimoto’s for a long time b/c I had developed a goiter. It couldn’t been seen to the naked eye but it was starting to bother me. I didn’t know what it was until a nurse caught it on physical exam of my neck.
I had a swelling that would have become a goiter, but no cancer. I was offered a choice of the surgery or the radioactive iodine, or drugs to try to suppress the thyroid. I had never had surgery (aside from tonsils as a kid) so I went with the iodine. I ended up 10 years later having 7 surgeries relating to thyroid eye disease. It is thought that radioactive iodine helps to trigger the eye disease, so I would have done better to have the surgery.
Gosh that sounds terrible. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.
