Chinese officials are banning spectators from cheering during the upcoming games in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19.
The elaborate precautions are even tighter than the ones enforced during the summer’s Tokyo Games, as Beijing has maintained a “Zero COVID” policy since early in the pandemic.
Everyone — including the athletes — is asked to clap instead of shouting, cheering, or singing. Athletes must be vaccinated — or face a 21-day quarantine — take tests daily and wear masks when not competing or training.

In a totalitarian state, they control everything. They’d force the people to stop breathing, but that would lead to bigger problems taking all the corpses from the stadium.

Oh, imagine that... All the best American athletes are positive with COVID before their events and are not allowed to participate.
I have a feeling China is about to win the most gold medals of all the countries participating.

Haha. Can you imagine all the best non-Chinese athletes testing positive before their events and not being able to compete? What a farce that would be.
I would think that China’s remedy for the Wuhan virus would be to shoot everyone who has symptoms or who has been exposed. Mao or Stalin would have been good with that.

If 10 years ago one wrote a dystopian sci-fi novel where cheering at sporting events was prohibited, people would consider it an absurd idea, even for sci-fi.
