You know, given a choice between annoying France and annoying Australia and the UK I will pick annoying France every time.

Nonsense! The Citroen 2CV engine is the most reliable two cylinder, air cooled engine ever installed in a four wheeled vehicle! (Don’t forget that the 2 CV Safari had TWO engines - front and back - allowing it to have four wheel drive)!
Three wheeled vehicles is an entire matter altogether...(Morgans, BMW Isetta’s, etc.)

That has finally caught up with the French.
Morocco was the first country to recognize the USA and opened their ports to our ships within a year of our Declaration of Independence.....we have our longest unbroken treaty with Morocco, which also hosts our oldest diplomatic building and only U.S. National Historic Landmark located outside the United States.
Australia will be a communist state long before they lay the keel of any submarine for Australia.

Mmm. Diesel subs can be quieter than nuc boats because the pumps on the nuc boats have to run constantly and even the best of them generate noise. Diesel subs can be quieter when they’re running on batteries only.
The real dynamic in the Pacific is that Australia’s planned diesel boats were going to augment a littoral navy. The Aussies switching to nuc boats means that in a dust up the Aussies can kill Chicom warships in Chinese waters. That’s a big change for the Aussies because instead of having an in-depth defensive capability they will now have an in-depth offensive capability.
In a future war that means China can be hit directly by Australian forces.
The next thing that needs to happen in the Pacific is to outfit Taiwan with a few hundred/thousand intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of destroying hard targets in China.
