France recalls its ambassadors to the US and Australia over new national security partnership

(CNN)The French government has immediately recalled its ambassador to the US for consultation in response to the recently announced national security partnership with the United Kingdom and Australia.

Philippe Étienne, the French ambassador to the US, confirmed the news when reached for comment. In a statement, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, said Friday that the move was made at the request of President Emmanuel Macron. "This extraordinary decision reflects the exceptional seriousness of the announcements made on September 15 by Australia and the United States," Le Drian said. "The abandonment of the ocean-class submarine project that Australia and France had been working on since 2016 and the announcement of a new partnership with the United States aimed at studying the possibility of future cooperation on nuclear-powered submarines constitute unacceptable behavior among allies and partners; their consequences affect the very concept we have of our alliances, our partnerships, and the importance of the Indo-Pacific for Europe."

If we get into a war with France - who surrenders first?

They’re not concerned about a “security partnership.”

they’re pissed they got screwed out of a $$ multi-billion submarine order they thought was in the bag.

Are French munitions any good?
I know their cars have always been known for a good suspension but lousy reliability.

Biden can certainly screw up balance of power politics. Wherever he creates a power vacuum his favorite benefactors are certain to fill it.

I’m not sure about France surrendering. Muslin nations can be remarkably obtuse.

France sabotaged our tanks during a sales demonstration.

Don’t feel a bit sorry for the snail eaters.

The Frogs have a legit beef here. They’re allies and they had a sub partnership going with Australia, and Dementia Joe screwed them out of it. Why pick a fight with a friend?

At the same time, this serves them right. They despised Trump and cheered his ouster and imagined that things would be delightful with Dementia Joe. Reality bites.

Sky News Australia has been saying for some time that France was overcharging for these Diesel/Electric subs. But still that is what “allies” do isn’t it? Over charge, for obsolete technology.

Besides, What better ally can a small nation like Australia have than The USA? There is no way the Washington would allow either of the Submarine Builders to overcharge. Especially for dated technology. Now would they? Not American (Oh Say Can You See) Defense Contractors

And By God, the US will stick with them to the end, will they not?

All the French needed to do was buy some of Hunter’s “art.”

The Aussies would be better served buying decommed Los Angeles class submarines than French-built stuff. MX contracts are a b#tch. A 30-y.o. sub would have the kinks fixed on it and plenty of upgraded, proven equipment. Throw in a pair of new props and call it a deal.

I can't speak for their munitions. But I worked for a company, who had a division in France where their nuclear pumps were made, that facility was first class and the work produced there for both the nuke level equipment, as well as high pressure pipeline and boiler feed, were as good as any similar facility I have seen in the US.
