For whatever reason, it appears there is an interest among some people in using a medication for animals to treat or prevent COVID-19.
The problem is - ivermectin meant for animals is not safe for humans.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently posted on Twitter - “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously y’all. Stop it.”
On its website, the FDA said, “There seems to be a growing interest in a drug called ivermectin to treat humans with COVID-19. Ivermectin is often used in the U.S. to treat or prevent parasites in animals.
The FDA has received multiple reports of patients who have required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses.”
The FDA, agreeing that it seems like we have been living with COVID-19 “for what sometimes seems like forever,” said it is “perhaps not surprising that some consumers are looking at unconventional treatments, not approved or authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).”
Understandable but perhaps not wise.
The FDA said ivermectin is not approved to treat or prevent COVID-19 in humans. It is used in “very specific doses” to treat parasitic worms and some head lice and skin conditions in humans.
In animals, it is used to prevent heartworm disease and other internal and external parasites.
“Never use medications intended for animals on yourself. Ivermectin preparations for animals are very different from those approved for humans,” the FDA said.
The FDA said the medication for animals is often “highly concentrated because they are used for large animals like horses and cows, which can weigh a lot more than we do - a ton or more. Such high doses can be highly toxic in humans.”
The FDA said there is “some initial research underway” but there is no data to support the use of ivermectin in COVID-19 patients.
“There’s a lot of misinformation around, and you may have heard that it’s okay to take large doses of ivermectin. That is wrong,” the FDA said.
The FDA said even levels of the drug that are for approved uses can interact with other medication. Overdoses of ivermectin can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension (low blood pressure), allergic reactions (itching and hives), dizziness, ataxia (problems with balance), seizures, coma and even death.
The version of the drug for animals also has inactive ingredients.
“Many inactive ingredients found in animal products aren’t evaluated for use in people. Or they are included in much greater quantity than those used in people. In some cases, we don’t know how those inactive ingredients will affect how ivermectin is absorbed in the human body.”
Here's what you do:
Animal dose, multiply by your weight.
Divide by animal dose weight.
Result is your dose.
And "inactive ingredients" are just that.
maybe if they allowed the human version to be distributed this would not be a problem?
just maybe?
If they had not politicized medicine people would not be forced to fend for themselves.
If cow meds will save my life them I’m a cow.
Well, what about people who personally identify as farm animals?
Here in Florida, for some months now, you will be prescribed Ivermectin in pill form the minute you test postive for the Chicom virus. What do these geniuses have to say about that, besides nothing?
The nation of India has also been using Ivermectin to curtail the widespread of C-19 in their country. No comments from these self-appointed godheads on that, either.
Doom on these self-serving bastards. Bloody, screaming doom.
Lie.
people aren’t guinea pigs either but you use them as such... ESAD!
Ivermectin is legitimately used by humans and has been for years. Anyone who says different is just lying because they have deviou motives.
“The FDA has received multiple reports of patients who have required medical support and been hospitalized after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses.”
I say that is a lie!
I used it back in March- it worked!
My son used it three weeks ago with a 102/103 fever - it worked!
His friend -four weeks ago, same result - it worked!
Will Tylenol kill you if you overdose on it?
I identify as a cat in a cow suit.
So, Hillary or pelosi would be safe to use it?
Make the “human” meds available then.
I have to order ivermectin and hydroxy from freaking India.
This FDA article is shortsighted.....Prescriptive Ivermectin, 20 tabs, 3mg, are for sale at Walgreens for $37.00.
So true!
This is silly MSM tripe. A drug is a drug. My vet prescribes the same diphenhydramine for my dog as he does me. He gets the same prednisone. A different ASAID but it is still similar.
“...Here in Florida, for some months now, you will be prescribed Ivermectin...”
Advent Health has prohibited the doctors that work for them from prescribing it. (Told to me by one of them)
Funny how the headline substitutes “prevent” for “treat”.
Indian Bar Association sues WHO scientist over Ivermectin
The Indian Bar Association (IBA) sued WHO Chief Scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan on May 25, accusing her in a 71-point brief of causing the deaths of Indian citizens by misleading them about Ivermectin.
