Thailand on Tuesday decriminalized the possession and sale of kratom, a plant native to Southeast Asia whose leaves are used as a mild stimulant and painkiller and which has a following in the United States for its pain-relieving qualities.
Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said thousands of legal cases for the possession or sale of kratom were being dropped, and 121 inmates convicted in such cases would be released immediately. Possession of kratom had been punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of as much as 200,000 baht ($6,077) for quantities of 10 kilograms (22 pounds) or more.
The decriminalization of kratom, which involved removing the drug from the official list of controlled narcotics, is the country’s latest move to liberalize its drug laws. In the past two years, Thailand has allowed regulated medical marijuana use as well as the licensed buying and growing of marijuana, and permitted households to grow up to six plants. Harsh penalties remain for hard drugs such as heroin and methamphetamine.

tried it- meh- just made me feel weird- not good, not happy, just weird- they say it’s supposed to relax (the reason i got it because of constantly tense muscles that are painful because of the relentless tension)- didn’t help one iota i n that department
Bought if off amazon- used to be legal- haven’t checked i n awhile if it still is?
In Thailand it’s used to kick heroin addiction.
I got a huge container full of capsules of it in hopes it would help my sister get away from oxycontin for pain.
She was unimpressed, but I took several caps and it had an effect on me... but then I was not in serious pain like she was. It did have a bit of an intoxicating effect though.
Take too many and u get a tummy ache, at least I did.
i don;t see it listed on amazon- I’m pretty sure that’s where i got it several years ago- I didn’t care for it at all- seemed to make my tension worse, and made me just feel weird- like a caffeine buzz, but more nervous feeling- and also feeling like you were drugged-
IMO Kratom works better than any OTC pain killer and lasts longer which is why Big Pharma wants to outlaw it in the US.
And it’s been effective in treating heroin addiction, another reason Pharma doesn’t like it because, in their minds, people should be taking Suboxone for that.

Count me out. I’m bad enough as it is.
It has analgesic effects. Can interact with opioid receptors in brain...so it can relieve pain. Has mild stimulatory effect. Has potential for abuse. There are many compounds in the peoduct...complex plant drug. If one can live without it...the less complexity in ones life would be helpful.

yeah, it was a weird mix- nervous, but doped feeling at same time- it’s supposed to be a relaxant (as well as mild stimulant)- i think the combo is what made it feel so weird-
if folks are looking for pain relief, SUPPOSEDLY a combo of tylenol and motrin or another med like that is as effective as opioids-

I tried it after operation once— it’s not as effective- but perhaps close-
Sure have. The effects depend on the “color” of the kratom and the type you use. I have a small amount of Green kratom on hand. One capsule gives about 4 hours of energy with no crash. My wife uses an occasional red capsule to help with sleep after a tough gym session. There is also white kratom which gives more energy.
Taking too many, yes, will upset your stomach and you might even “reject” it back out. Like anything, it’s a good idea to use it in moderation, don’t mix with alcohol. It *can* be habit forming if you use it a LOT (multiple times a day, etc).
Just don’t expect the effects to blow your socks off. It can be subtle or strong depending on your body chemistry and amount taken. If you want to try it, start small. Of the vein colors, I heard: “White for flight, Red for Bed, Green for inbetween”.
Though, personally I find green increases my focus along with a little energy uptick when I need to stay up extra late, maybe for unexpected guests. White can get a little jittery if you’ve had caffeine too, but nowhere as bad as too much coffee.
Just do some of your own research on it. There are people that freak out over it, just take those with a grain of salt. I’ve used it very occasionally over a few years and never had any issues.

People I know who swear by it have rituals
One makes a nasty tea with it.....thick awful stuff....from red kratom he gets shipped from Indonesia from someone he knows
He acts chatty and whimsical happy when high ....like opiates
My best pal down in Mississippi distills his with alcohol and makes a tincture with moonshine....he then distills it down to super concentrate and takes 3-4 eye dropper fulls in the morning and several times in day
He uses a green kratom from Burma...part of club where a buyer goes over and picks the best and ships back 500 to 1000 pounds at a time...my friend buys 10-20 pounds of it

i agree- ive had several surgeries- and nothing but the good stuff would touch the pain-
Yeah i was off on my ‘maybe close’ remark- thinking back to the time i tried the combo- the surgery i had wasn’t that bad pain-wise- but i have had some that wow- they hurt intensely- and only opioids would even begin to calm the pain-
Trump announced that researchers were ‘working on a non opioid pain reliever’ that supposedly worked as effective as opioids, but i have my doubts- I would gladly use it if they did- but till then- nothing that i know of touches the effectiveness of opioids- Way back when- they used to give us a 3 month supply all at once- after surgeries- now you are lucky if you get only a few days worth - docs are scared to death to prescribe them anymore- As much as I’ve had throughout my life- i never once had a hard time stopping them- and i took them for more than a couple months once- never had withdrawals that were unbearable-
