Curious about the family’s overtures, the lawyers statements concerning culpability... no mention that she was supposedly cremated. Why wouldn’t that be part of the national discussion? That’s a big #ing deal.

Since when does a medical examiner make the decision to cremate the body of a person who is not indigent and has living family members, including her husband? I thought that was a family decision?

I’ve been in the funeral industry for over twenty years in Pennsylvania. In PA, the medical examiner/coroner only makes the decision for cremation if the deceased is “unclaimed”, meaning no next-of-kin has stepped forward to claim the body, and that is a long, drawn-out process, taking at least a month. The coroner does not simply cremate a body after an autopsy, they have no authority to do so if there is a next-of-kin. I can’t imagine the system is much different in D.C.
The government does this sort of thing routinely when they need to dispose of evidence of official wrongdoing. In the past they have rushed executions, destroyed crime scenes where police malfeasance led to wrongful death, destroyed evidence, on and on. Despicable but not new.
She did not die that day. But she was murdered months later by the DS.
