People initially thought Caitlyn Jenner could be that candidate. So far, she’s not.
As of now, 41 hopefuls have made the ballot.
I mean…what is this, an Election Day ballot or the menu at Cheesecake Factory?
The list of wannabes includes YouTube personalities, billboard mavens, reality show stars, and even some elected officials.
For celebrity value, the field includes Caitlyn Jenner and Steve Chavez Lodge, whose introduction requires you to know that he’s the main squeeze of “Real Housewives of Orange County” star Vicki Gunvalson.
Conventional wisdom would have it that this favors Newsom. However, the current scenario could actually produce a dynamic that’s a unique threat to his power.
By having a bevy of candidates who all come to the table with their own fan base and constituency, and none really standing out from the pack, it will be much harder for Newsom to make the election about them.
In a sense, Newsom doesn’t have the ability to run against an opponent, which makes this election about him.
And that’s a problem.
Newsom is traveling up and down the state talking about California’s economy “roaring back” and why we should “never bet against California.”
But most of us also have two eyes and two ears, and we see what’s going on around us. We see the homeless, we see the crime, we see how much Sacramento is taking out of our pockets, we see how much the school shutdowns and mask mandates have damaged California’s children.
If Newsom’s strategy for winning the election is to convince us that everything in California is great — and we have him to thank for it — he’s in trouble.

Newsom will prevail, be called “The Comeback Kid” by the media, and is on his way to the 2024 Nomination. Chicks love him.
Who the hell thought Kaitlin Jenner would be the breakout candidate? These people have been drinking embalming fluid.
I will say something good about Gavin Newsom, but that’s only because standards have fallen so low.
Gavin Newsom doesn’t cross-dress or pretend to be a girl.
I refuse to call Bruce Jenner Caitlyn, a woman or refer to him as “she” or “her”.
The recall election will present voters with two questions. September 14, 2021.
The first will ask whether Newsom should be recalled from the office of governor.
The second will ask who should succeed Newsom if he is recalled. A majority vote is required on the first question for the governor to be recalled. The candidate with the MOST votes on the second question would win the election, no majority required.
The one who strikes terror into the hearts of the Left is the author and radio talk show host Larry Elder, the Sage of South Central (Los Angeles). They’re using a technicality to try to keep him off the ballot, but he is suing to get on, and I believe he will prevail.
Well, gosh...he might just have to cheat! I know he doesn’t want to - being the upstanding, moral Democrat that he is - but it’s for the children. /s
This state really is a damn joke. 40 million people and the best we can do is Caitlyn Jenner. It’s my home, it’s where my family is, but it’s still pretty pathetic. LOL
I don’t know if it’s going to be possible for Dems to nominate another white guy.
I’ll be shocked if there’s a white guy on the 2024 ticket at all.
Dems aren’t stupid, they know at least for now, it still needs to be a white guy, why do you think they went with Biden?

True. The other candidates were so horribly flawed, they had to pick Biden. But, that was before they almost (figurately and literally) burned the country to the ground over George Floyd.
I think the electoral equation for Democrats changed in that moment and I suspect ‘rich white boy with the Becky hair’ doesn’t fit in it.
Larry Elder (R/L) is being kept off the ballot for now.
Allegedly because he included his social security number in his tax returns that were required to file.
His issue is there are two questions to vote on; Should we recall him and who do you want to replace him? He’s basically running against his horrible record and he sucks.
I do believe the recall has kept him from keeping the state locked down, rolling blackouts and water rationing. That shows how political it all is.
Newson indicted? Sounds good to me.
There is a superhero candidate. Larry Elder. I see this article made him an unperson. He is such a threat they are cheating to keep him off the ballot. They are going to find out the hard way this is a black man they cannot keep down.
