House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy Wednesday said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi harmed the House as an institution and undermined the Jan. 6 select committee by choosing not to seat Reps. Jim Jordan and Jim Banks, who McCarthy chose to fill two of the five GOP slots on the committee.
"Speaker Pelosi has taken the unprecedented step of denying the minority party's picks for the Select Committee on Jan. 6. This represents something that has not happened in the House before for a select committee, by the historian," McCarthy, R-Calif., said at a press conference.
"It's an egregious abuse of power. Pelosi has broken this institution. Denying the voice of members who have served in the military – Jim Banks, a Navy veteran who served in Afghanistan," McCarthy continued. "As well as a leader of a standing committee. Jim Jordan isn't ranking of just his first committee, he's done it before."
McCarthy's fiery comments followed a statement he issued in which he said Republicans will completely boycott the select committee if Pelosi did not allow all five of his picks, including Jordan, R-Ohio, and Banks, R-Ind., to be seated.
"Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts," McCarthy said.
The resolution passed by the House creating a select committee to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol required Pelosi to appoint five members to the committee "after consultation with the minority leader," but it gave her final veto power over the members. That language is often used in relation to select committees and special commissions, but the speaker's veto power is almost never exercised.

We have to remember at all times that this is NOT a legitimate government.
This woman in herself is an “egregious abuse”. Is there not some way to get her out of any public position? And insure that she STAYS out?
Kevin, Nancy does not care about the institution, America or the American people. She only cares about Power and Money and you don’t even call her out on it!
She broke the social contract called the Constitution when she falsely certified Obama as a natural born citizen.
She curiously only did so to Hawaii, the other 49 states got certifications without the natural born citizen language.
McCarthy the RINO squish should be talking.
That is as close as we are ever gonna see to him calling her out on it.

When she ripped up the State of the Union speech, there was raging anger in her eyes.
She’s a rich, spoiled-from-birth banshee on her last legs and she seems quite content to leave nothing but scorched earth behind her.
This is what we get when the “leaders” in Congress are from two of the most unrepresentative parts of America - San Francisco and New York. If the Rs have any sense, once they retake the House they should dish it out ten times worse.

Her age will do it, she is 81 now, so this is likely her final term along with her losing the speakership next year.
Republicans have no control over whom the democRats choose for their Speaker.
McCarthy is a RINO POS. Republicans should never go along with this 1/6 commission. Instead they should spend every waking minute attacking the big steal. They should not take a single action or vote while Biden is office. No extending the debt limit. No funding non-military parts of government and the border control. The rest can go to hell.
