Dominican Republic Builds a 4-Meter Fence On Border With Haiti

The Dominican Republic has built 23 kilometers of the border fence with Haiti to curb immigration, smuggling, arms and drug trafficking, and the theft of vehicles and livestock.

The four-meter-high barrier is on a cement brick wall topped by a spiral of razor wire, and it is still under construction by the Dominican Army.

The built sections are at the crossing points of Elias Piña and Jimani. Currently, a group of companies is setting budgets to erect a new fence before the end of the year.

Just announced in February, over 23 Kilometers (14 miles) are already standing. Rapid execution.

President Luis Abinader declared the Program to be conducted on an emergency basis by the Nation's Military, and for its details to be classified.

They share about 380 Km (236 miles) of border with Haiti, but some of that is mountainous, where barrier may not be needed.

The basic design seems to be concrete block (vehicle barrier), topped with chain link fence and concertina (to 13 feet high), with cleared observation areas and access road. Layers of technology are also planned.

They have started running from two of the Ports of Entry (Jimaní and Elías Piña). The whole Program is expected to take two years, but we may see an exceptionally rapid period of road and barrier construction this year, to quickly improve operational control, with other features catching up later in the program.

The problem is that the Dems are taking advantage of the average American not knowing how other countries operate with respect to borders. They have taught many here that building a fence is somehow "ungodly" or "racist".

Other than western Europe, every country that has issues with their bordering country has built some sort of barrier between themselves and that country, whether it is a wall, install gates, a military presence, what have you. For example, you think that Kenya doesn't have a fence to stop Somalia infiltration?

If you ask the average person from the DR about a fence between DR and Haiti, they would say "build it high and strong", and this was years before Donald Trump became POTUS.

Haiti is perennially the poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere.

Dom Rep gets a lot of crime across the border from Haiti.

This wall looks to be going up quick. It will probably make a noticeable impact.
