California Governor Gavin Newsom reacted to the conviction of former Minneapolis, Minnesota, police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd on Tuesday by suggesting he was killed because of his race.
“George Floyd would still be alive if he looked like me,” Newsom tweeted.

If Newsome did that much fentanyl, he’d be dead, too.

If all the circumstances had been the same but Floyd had been white and all the events of that day had played out the same, you’d still have the same narrative:
1. A bodycam view of a fat white dude in a massive state of emotional distress after having the cops called on him for passing a fake 20 dollar bill
2. Ambulance called due to the fat white dude already being injured
3. Fat white dude has a panic attack while being put in the police car, takes multiple cops to subdue him
4. A 10 minute recording by a 17 year old girl, as well as other footage, covering everything else that happens before the ambulance arrives.
If the footage had captured a fat white dude, far more right wing conservatives would be saying Chauvin was guilty of the lesser charge. Not because of the kneeling but because he obstructed emergency first aid in addition to dismissing every law-abiding bystander with working eyeballs who advised him that it was safe, and right, for him to stop the pindown.
If those had been the circumstances, very few would go as far as saying Floyd got what was coming to him and Chauvin was acting proportionally.
If those had been the circumstances and all the eyewitnesses and professionals had been white as well, the cops at the scene would not have felt threatened.
Certainly not felt threatened by the remonstrations of a 6 year old girl, or a 17 year old girl, or an off-duty person with medical knowledge.
If they’d all been white a “reasonable cop” would’ve seen that the crowd posed no threat and most were literally doing nothing but watch. Those who were intervening were effectively saying “if you render first aid to this guy in distress, or let us do it, we’ve all got your back but if you don’t, this guy will die and that’ll be on you.”
So it’s clearly a situation where unconscious bias did have an effect at the scene, and conscious bias is evident by the wave of poor excuses to let Chauvin off that’d be laughed off these forums if he’d been a white cop kneeling on a fat white dude.
On second thought, George Floyd deliberately swallowed a fatal dose of fentanyl, so, maybe not.
the more accurate view on this is, if gavin newsom did all the things george floyd did, he’d be dead too
