Bill Wenger, the author of the op-ed and a former U.S. Army Infantry Colonel. He definitely knows what he is talking about. Unlike the MSM

It’s ranger training and you receive a tab that goes on your uniform. You do NOT have to be assigned to a certain regiment to call yourself a ranger, if fact most of them aren’t.

The fact we are even having this debate shows how the Left / Democrats control the media.

What a depressing hot mess military.com is. Used to be respectable years ago. Not, not so much.

[full disclosure] 6 years US Army Infantry. Volunteered for the Airborne and Ranger courses in basic but was sidelined by pneumonia and missed my chance to attend. Got shipped to Germany, never was able to get back to Ranger school. I am not a Ranger nor have I ever considered myself a Ranger.

The general rule is - if you earn the tab, you earn the right to call yourself a Ranger.

“I can tell you categorically the journalists who attacked Sen. Cotton’s Ranger status have it exactly backward.”

Geez, what a #%>^%# surprise.

...and later with the respected Old Guard of the 3rd Infantry Division at Arlington National Cemetery.

Regiment, not Division.

If he’s tabbed, he’s tabbed. End of arguments.

Did Cotton complete Ranger training? Was he allowed to wear the tab? Yes and yes. End of story.

He’s a war-seeking NeoCon, not sure about the Ranger part.

Ranger school is tradoc. Regiment is socom. Kinda like calling someone who graduated airborne school a paratrooper, even though they went on to never jump again or serve in a airborne unit.

RLTW.

Well, we know Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado is a Ranger. He won’t stop crowing about it.

A soldier tabbed a Ranger is a Ranger. They can be called on to be duty slotted into a Ranger company at any time. Being slotted into the 75th is not a requirement to be a Ranger.

Of course, he is a Ranger:

Army Rangers, US Army’s definition, are personnel, past or present, in any unit that has the official designation of “Ranger”. The term is commonly used to include graduates of the US Army Ranger School, even if they have never served in a “Ranger” unit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army_Rangers#cite_note-ranger-3

Ranger or no Ranger, he’s still a globalist sellout who betrayed his country for cheap political gain.

Lots of guys with Ranger tabs didn’t serve in the Ranger regiment.
It can be a ‘ticket punch’ they need to keep their military career moving. Or they’re men looking to prove themselves.
That doesn’t mean they aren’t Rangers. They completed the course (which is an utter and total torment from beginning to end) and that makes them a Ranger.
