Build a field hospital....easier and cheaper. Hell, they even built them in 1918 for that epidemic...and in fact they did it because the fresh air was good for them.

They’ll be moving normal sickness to the ship, and reserving
COVID-19 for the hospitals.

That was the plan last time.

Our hospitals are full and refusing patients at the ERs.

Something has to give. That ship would help right now.

Frankly, it angers me to see them have waited this long to
ask for it to come back.

Did the other places that requested assistance like this ever use it? I heard it was so underutilized as to be a waste of time and money.

Smart move to bring the ship back. If things are as bad as they appear in LA, them do bring it back. As for illegals being treated? As much as I detest illegal immigration, I would rather them get treatment than moving around society spreading the Wuhan.

It wasn’t needed last time. We didn’t get nearly this many
COVID-19 patients last time.

This time it actually is.

Fair enough. I was a bit peeved at this last time, but tried to rationalize it by writing it off as experience and work for the crew.

I admit to now knowing how that ship is crewed, whether physicians/corpsmen/nurses etc. are staffed only as needed and whether they have to reallocate or call them up, which is what I would expect.

Kind of along the same lines of people who get irritated because military aircraft perform at air shows, when even that has value for cross-country flight, aerobatic experience, etc. and the personnel and equipment might otherwise just be doing nothing.

1 - The ship is needed more for its medical staff than for the facilities.

2 - Guv Nuisance is too proud to ask.

They should’ve done that long ago, and regarding illegal aliens, if any, they should be treated to ensure they live at least long enough to be deported, then summarily deported. Never allowed to step foot back in the US

Eh. I believe cuomo rejected the help. The ship sat empty in the Hudson off manhattan island while cuomo ordered sick elderly discharging out of hospitals into nursing homes not even equipped to handle the illness let alone infecting the vulnerable residents.

And they won’t be getting it again— they have billions for illegals— use that money and build their own field hospitals.

CA has a greater economy that over 25 foreign countries. Stop sucking money from our military. They had their chance.

The legalized dope-— tax the crap out of that in Mendocino County alone, and be enough to finance the beds. I0W get your own “shite” together CA. Stop whimpering to your cell phones.

Seems like they had time to address this capacity issue since Mercy was there before.

How is it the hospitals are at capacity now but not at capacity when it was brand new and peeking ?

I miss California but not the political entity.

And you think the illegal aliens (if any??? Really??) will ever be deported? Biden has already said he is going to tear down all of the wall that Trump built.

One would love to read a comprehensive and truthful demographic breakdown of just who are invading our emergency departments.

One suspects that illegal aliens, professional vagrants, and those population subgroups that live extraordinarily cosmopolitan lifestyles comprise a large proportion of the ER siege.

By the time they call the ship back to the port, they will have gone through their peak. My guess is that everything should go way down by MLK weekend.

I think that is pretty well known, that along border states, ED departments are flooded with illegals using the ED for routine or semi-routine healthcare.

Hospitals generally have a fund (at the state level I believe) they are required to contribute to in a given state to be shared in the care of indigent patients and those without insurance.

Not sure how those mechanics work, and how the money is meted out, it seems those in the lower part of the state would be taking in more than those in the upper parts.

Couldn’t they just implement the 3 emergency mobile hospitals they have? Oh wait, they stopped funding the storage and maintenance of them a few years back and surplussed them. My bad, I was assuming for a moment that California is run by competent people. Silly me.

If it were up to me, I would require the Gov to ask. If only to drive home to the voters what they have if he says no. If there is no cost to the event it is just another example of the country’s taxpayers funding irresponsible/socialist experiments.
