I Didn’t Vote For Trump In 2016, But I’d Crawl Over Broken Glass To Vote For Him Now

I was a reluctant Trump voter in 2016. His stand on Kelo was not encouraging, he had been a Democrat and cozy with Democratic politicians. Man, was I wrong. I’d crawl over broken glass with an N95 mask on to vote for him in 2020.

Funny thing is, if the Democrats hadn’t gone all Machiavellian on him, he would probably be playing ball with them.

I first voted a bit lukewarmly for Trump in 2016 (in the primary) because my first choice was Cruz but Cruz had dropped out by the time my state voted in the primary.

But since then I’ve really become a Trump groupie: during the last 2 years especially I’ve listened to every press conference and rally. And last month I was able to attend a rally in person (Minden NV) and chanted right along: “We love you! We love you!” He’s done so much for the United States with no credit, and is so entertaining to boot.

My husband, myself, my 18 year old son (his first time voting), and my 22 year old son will head down to the polls together on election day—4 votes for Trump.

I really hope we get more than just 3 more months of him. It would be a tragedy for the US if we only get one term of this man. It would be like when England voted out Churchill—no gratitude!

“I couldn’t imagine Trump as a genuine conservative who would champion limited government, respect individual freedom and liberty, and protect the unborn ...”

Four years later, and I still don’t understand the thinking. I’m glad this person has come around, but Trump’s 2016 issue was the border. Without shutting that down, all of the other stuff about muh limited government is lost. See California for how it turns out. At least some of these people are coming around: Mark Levin has come around, Ben Shapiro has grudgingly sort of come around, Charlie Kirk at least says some rah rah stuff about Trump, Candace Owens has come around.

This “conservative” urge to lose with honor (but, above all else, to lose) is the worst thing that has come out of the movement. The people want Trump and Trumpism. Nobody wants what National Review and the rest of the “Beautiful Losers” are selling. They have inverted the Al Davis mantra: Just lose, baby!

My mother in law’s first vote for a GOP candidate in her life was in 2016 for Trump. She used to belong to SDS (socialist group) in the 1960s! Her reasoning for the switch: she realized the Dems are doing nothing at all that are in the interests of her own grandchildren (white, upper middle class, mainly male).

She always voted for Dems mainly because she is very pro choice (whatever) but now has seen the light and although is still pro choice, watches Tucker Carlson regularly.

I watch Trump all the time and I’ve realized that he really sees the world solely in terms of getting a better deal for the United States. His mind thinks in terms of “deals.” And he’s indeed gotten much better deals for the US, even in the face of having to fight off daily Dem attempts to impeach him, bring him down, hostile media, hostile GOP—he stands all alone for the US.

Trump could shoot me on 5th Ave and I’d still cast a vote for him.

Mr. President just make it a low caliber weapon, a BB or squirt gun would suffice.

I become a Trump supporter during the 1st Republican debate in 2016. He said he wasn’t politically correct.

That is also the debate, where Jeb Bush and John Kasich raised their hands and said they would support the eventual Republican nominee. (Kasich and Bush are a couple of liars)

I felt much the same as the author of the article. Trump was close to my last choice among the dozen Republican candidates during the 2016 primaries. I have known many wealthy New York and Northeastern Republicans in my life and nearly all were in the mold of Nelson Rockefeller - fiscal moderates and social liberals. I had seen nothing in Trump’s statements prior to being a candidate that indicated he would be any different. Certainly, the best we could hope for from his judicial nominees would be social liberals like Anthony Kennedy and David Souter.

Unlike the author, I voted for Trump in 2016. Even though I had doubts about what kind of President he would be, I had no doubts whatsoever about what kind of President Hillary Clinton would be. I celebrated Clinton’s surprise loss on election night and then held my breath to see what President Trump would do.

It turns out that I was not just wrong about Trump, I was incredibly, spectacularly, breathtakingly wrong. Trump has turned out to be the best President since Ronald Reagan. Trump’s judicial nominees have been consistently conservative, something no other President in my lifetime (including Reagan) has accomplished.

This year I have a Trump/Pence sign in my yard, a Trump/Pence bumper sticker on my truck, and I have happily contributed to Trump’s re-election campaign. I will stand in line on the first day of early voting in Texas so that I can proudly cast my vote to re-elect President Trump.

No need to crawl over broken glass — just send his campaign a large check.

Quite frankly, I thought that Trump was just spouting Boob Bait for Bubbas, i.e., promising things that he had no intention of performing in order to pander to the Republican base. To me, the most important issue in the 2016 election was judicial appointments, particularly filling Justice Scalia's then open seat and the seats of the three octogenarians on the Supreme Court (Kennedy, Ginsburg and Breyer), some or all of which were likely to come open during the next four years. I reluctantly voted for Trump in 2016, not because I thought he would be a conservative, but because there was no possibility that he would be worse than Hillary Clinton.

As I noted in my post above, I freely admit that I was incredibly, spectacularly, breathtakingly wrong about Trump. Early voting begins on October 13 in Texas and I will be standing in line when the polls open that morning so that I can proudly and happily cast my vote to re-elect President Trump.

Good to hear. All converts are welcome. I got on the Trump train early because:

Something about the way he stood his ground convinced me this guy was a truth teller. He had plenty of chances to make things easier by lying, pandering and appeasing his attackers - but he just didn’t do it.

Leading up to the general, a typical Republican starts scrapping the conservative elements of his platform to appease the “moderates” - refuses to talk about abortion, borders, 2nd Amendment - but with Trump that day never came.

I am so glad people are still climbing aboard - it’s never too late!!

Trump 2020 - best election ever

”... and although is still pro choice ...”

Has she ever watched a video of a partial birth abortion? I used to say, “I don’t care how many of their own babies the Democrats kill.”

I watched the video. Now I know what legalized murder looks like.

Ditto! Didn’t vote for Trump in 2016. Huge supporter now.
(Not fond of his style stil...)
But I appreciate the fact that DJT still dances with who brung him. Even now the Left is holding their tongue when Biden throws them under the bus for expedience. They will regret that.

Ummm, last time I checked, Trump replaced Scalia with Gorsuch, a man who declared that half of Oklahoma should be under the rule of Indian tribes and that the writers of the 1964 civil rights somehow had transgender men in dresses entering girl's bathrooms in mind when they wrote the law.

I don't think either of Trump's so-called "originalist" SCOTUS judges (Gorsuch OR Kavanaugh) will vote to overturn liberal "precedents" like abortion on demand.

I would say you and I CORRECTLY feared Trump would give us crappy judicial picks. Too bad the AlwaysTrumpers refused to listen, and thought ANY judge from his 2016 "list" would be wonderful. (Even Trump admits his original "list" sucks now, that's why he drew up a new one)

What we got wrong about him was everything else.

For example, I'm shocked Trump actually KEPT his campaign promise to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. Finally, some President with BALLS!
