Wait what? I thought it was supposed to move west.

The storm has been meandering. The slight eastward motion was short lived. Beta is now creeping WNW at ~3 MPH.

Is it the shearing that’s causing it not to gain power?. It’s been sitting still and yet only maintaining 60 mph winds for 2 or 3 days. Certainly odd to see a storm sit still in the gulf and not gain power.
Surely the water temps can’t be that cool?

400 AM CDT NHC Discussion

20 kt of southwesterly wind shear and a fair amount of dry air, especially
on the west side of the circulation. Since the shear is not expected to
decrease much while Beta moves into an even drier and more stable air
mass, little change in intensity is expected through landfall in 36 to 48
hours.

What does your tagline mean?

RBG dedicated her life to the law. She respected our system of laws and understood them. She chose NOT to retire when Obama was President because she did NOT want him choosing her replacement.

RBG was aware of all the implications of vacating her position. By retirement or death...She had access to the press, to leaders in her party, and to 'the written word'....

RBG would not have asked for an exception to our laws to be made in her favor because she was an 'elite' on her death bed. It's not her way, not the way she lived, not the way she ruled on decisions, not part of any philosophy she extolled. She had more class than to ask for special treatment based on being an elite...

Also, IF RBG had wanted to express that 'elites' should have more power than mere citizens, she could have written it up (she wrote beautifully). Her granddaughter was NOT her only option for getting her opinion out.

She's known of her impending death for some time. She had plenty of time to 'get that message out' on her own. IF that had been her choice. It wasn't like she was in a car accident and was surprised by the possibility of dying.

In short my tagline means I believe RBG's granddaughter lied.

Big lopsided wind field (outward 195 MI), mainly north of the center. Lake Charles radar is still out of service thanks to Hurricane Laura in August. The Gulf of Mexico can't catch a break this season.

Are you settled back into your normal routine yet following Sally?

WOW! That is definitely the best local report evuh! Many thanks.

What is your property elevation? The storm is still a couple of hundred miles away, and lapping up those steps. Was it Hurricane Ike that devastated your neighborhood? Awful storm. Hard to believe that was 12 years ago.

Twenty years ago I was 12’6” above sea level. Only Ike put water in my house(3’) and Beta is no Ike so I’m not worried. I’ll get you another report tomorrow. Tide should be at least 5’ and then there are the waves on top of that.

What happens when they run out of Greek letters?

They could do Polish letters, but of course they are only consonants.

On that chart at the top of this thread....what is that yellow X on Florida...looks like about Tampa?

A small low pressure system has moved inland over the south-central
Florida peninsula and is located just to the northwest of Lake
Okeechobee. Although shower activity is currently disorganized, some
development could occur when the low moves westward over the
eastern Gulf of Mexico later tonight and on Monday. However, by late
Tuesday or Wednesday, upper-level winds are expected to become
unfavorable for tropical cyclone formation while the system moves
westward to west-northwestward at about 10 mph. For more
information on this disturbance, please see local products and
High Seas Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...10 percent.
