The difference with chicken pox is that having chicken pox leaves a person vulnerable to getting shingles later in life. Shingles is the chicken pox virus(?) lurking in your own body possibly to break out later. Shingles can leave a person with residual pain or even damage their eyes. No chicken pox = no shingles.

You’ll forgive me for being cautious about a vaccine. Why should I be forced to take a vaccine for a virus with such a high survival rate and a virus that I will never catch?
In the early 90’s, my mother took the Flu (Influenza) shot. Big mistake. Because of the vaccine, my mother came down with a horrible case of the Flu and had to go to the Hospital. Long story short, she never took another Flu shot. I’ve never had one and never will.
I’m not an Anti-Vaxxer. I have no objections to the older, proven vaccines, such as the Polio, Pertussis and Mumps vaccines. I’m just uncomfortable with this particular vaccine and I don’t feel that it’s necessary for most people. Of course, if one is high risk, they should have access to it, if they desire.
I don’t care if you want to be vaccinated. It’s your choice to be vaccinated. Just don’t force others to take it.

Your personal medical decisions are your own. Both gas_dr and I fully support your right as an individual to make your own decisions free from government interference. However, it is anti-choice to use fearmongering and misinformation to attempt to persuade others. You have zero authoritative facts to support that any of the vaccine candidates in phase 3 trials are dangerous or rushed in any way. Each and every one of them is going through the same phase 1, phase 2, and phase 3 clinical trials as any other drug or vaccine. That means they're being tested for several months by tens of thousands of closely monitored volunteers. President Trump has explicitly stated that any vaccine that is approved will be strictly voluntary. If you don't want to take it after all the testing and approval processes, then don't. But don't falsely claim it's dangerous for others.

I’ll get the vaccine as soon as it’s available. In fact, I volunteered for the phase 3 trials but was never contacted.
I’m sick of the masks, the small groups, the social distancing, seeing businesses suffer or go belly-up, the deaths and hospitalizations, and I’m sick of rolling the dice with the virus. All these things will continue for a significant and IMO needless period of time if enough people refuse the vaccine

I think that refusing the vaccine plays right into the democrat’s hands and plans for extensive, maybe permanent shut downs.
I had a mild case of chicken pox (no vaccines or parties back in my childhood) but took the new Shingrix series regardless. Had a localized redness for a couple of days each time, which is a very small price to pay for avoiding or reducing the severity of herpes zoster.

It’s not necessarily anti-vax, it’s anti rushed-out vax. I was in the army 24 years and was given every shot imaginable (especially before going to Ethiopia). My 3 kids were all fully vaccinated. These were/are all proven vaccines that have been around for decades.
In this current political environment I can see how people will be full of trepidation. I’ll probably get the shot because my work will most likely force me to. Not so sure about my 15,14 and 9 year old sons. We’ll see.
Keep fighting the good fight. I lost two family members to Covid. They were both already very sick, but it still would have been nice if a vaccine were available. Their lives may have been extended at least.
