President Trump's approval rating among likely voters reached its pre-coronavirus high of 52% on Friday, including an astonishing 45% of blacks, according to Rasmussen's daily presidential tracking poll.
Rasmussen had Barack Obama at 47% approval at the same point in his presidency. And Obama and George W. Bush were both under 51% approval on the day they won.
The tracking poll on Friday found 42% "strongly approve" and 42% "strongly disapprove" of Trump's performance.
A Zogby Analytics poll on Aug. 26 also had Trump's approval at 52% along with 36% approval among blacks.

I’m trying to make sense of this. If the current approval matches the previous high, but the approval by blacks is at a new high, that means that approval by non-blacks must be lower. Presumably, and ironically, more non-blacks have come to regard Trump as unacceptably racist, but more blacks have come to the opposite conclusion.
And if that approval turns into votes, Trump will get far higher than the 5-10% of black vote that Republicans get.
Approval rating does not equal voting percentage but certainly is a good indicator.

I would imagine (or I’d like to think) there’s not all that many colored folks who want white college kids speaking for them through riots, violence, and destruction.

I am white and had several black apartment roommates in college. We weren’t necessarily all friends but we were all Christians, which was the glue—our politics were all different.
One of my roommates told me once that she appreciated my laid back attitude toward her, not treating her like a victim, or needing my “help,” or talking about racism all the time (actually I talked about it never), or whatever other irritating and infantilizing behavior liberals tend to demonstrate to blacks.
In other words, I treated (and treat) blacks as Trump does—so maybe there is something there.
Here’s a glimmer of hope—smart Christian black married women. I know one who said of Trump: “I don’t like his mouth, but we should give him a chance.”
Not too many married black women though, I think.

Not that most of us can do that anymore—I “attend” virtually still, being in the tyrannical state of CA.
