The National Rifle Associations former second-in-command is breaking with the groups orthodoxy and calling for universal background checks and so-called red flag laws in a new book assailing the organization as more focused on money and internal intrigue than the Second Amendment, while thwarting constructive dialogue on gun violence.

McCoy for The New York Times Joshua Powell was chief of staff for the National Rifle Associations executive director, Wayne LaPierre. In his new book, Mr. Powell calls for universal background checks. The former executive, Joshua L. Powell, who was fired by the N.R.A. in January, reinforces the kind of criticism made of the organization by gun control groups and state regulators, but it is the first critical look at its recent history by such a high-ranking insider.
He describes the N.R.A.s longtime chief executive, Wayne LaPierre, as a woefully inept manager, but also a skilled lobbyist with a deft touch at directing President Trump to support the groups objectives, and who repeatedly reeled in the presidents flirtations with even modest gun control measures.

They’re doing the same in churches - acting like one of us, then moving up in the ranks, and they TAKING OVER.
...and we’re stupid enough to keep falling for it.
Bitter Disgruntled party of 1?
Not all whores wear high heels.
If someone hasn’t bled for the cause, whatever the cause is, they don’t deserve promotion.
I just picked up a Glock 43 at local gun shop, w/extended mag, box of ammo, under $400 out the door. Get those deals while U can!
Just like churches in the USA.
The NRA has been infiltrated by those who want to destroy it.
Comes from hiring people for so-called expertise without true committment to organizations purposes.
“gun control”
Green technology gun power is in America’s future.
All our domestic enemies are inspired to do what they can against America.
I wonder what they consider ‘moderate gun control’? I’m sure that means AWB or more.
The NRA has been known to endorse democRats. That is NEVER acceptable.
If the “Republican” is not unsatisfactory, and many are, then they should endorse no one at all.
“Chief of staff” is not in line of command.
It doesn't make him right or convincing.
Oops, “not satisfactory”.
I had an ex that was a Methodist and she exposed me to it. I’m not that sure it’s overall much better than LDS.
A VA counselor advised me more than once not to try an get a PTSD diagnosis. Her reasoning was someday that medical information will be used by red flag laws to take away guns.
I do not think this will happen under Trump. But if the lefties get in charge, spitting on the sidewalk could be included in red flag laws.
More seriously, anything at all said on Farcebook or where ever else we are all socially monitored, could be considered hate and thus a red flag.
They cannot take away a gun unless one is guilty of a felony.
“...in a new book assailing the organization as more focused on money and internal intrigue than the Second Amendment, while thwarting constructive dialogue on gun violence.”
While I don’t disagree with that happening in the NRA...unless this is a sour grapes situation...how does one go from supporting the 2nd Amendment to not supporting it?
Was probably just a job to him. Never cared for it, but really good cash if you’re near the top of the NRA.
