The War on Landlords Has Begun
Mises Institute. ^ | 08/17/2020 | Zachary Yost

Posted on 08/20/2020 8:29:01 AM PDT by george76

As the widening gyre that that is 2020 continues to turn, it seems that every day some new disastrous and ill-thought-out proposal is made or policy implemented.

...

The idea of abolishing rent is not new, but until now it has never really been considered anything but a nutty pipe dream.

...

One of the most high-profile leaders of the cancel rent movement is Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who introduced legislation in April that basically amounts to nothing other than government extortion of landlords.

...

Attempting to collect rent or reporting the nonpayment of rent to credit agencies results in increasing fines, including the seizure of one’s property.

After Omar had taken a baseball bat to landlords' knees everywhere

...

Fortunately, Omar’s bill has a snowball’s chance in hell of becoming law at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that people will not keep trying to cancel rent.

...

The United Neighborhood Defense Movement, which has a chapter agitating in Pittsburgh, has a manifesto chock full of socialist buzzwords about the evils of the capitalist system that oppresses everyone for failing to provide housing to them for free by virtue of their existence. With the seriousness of a college freshman fresh off a bong hit, they declare that “Housing should be collectively owned, managed, and built for the most benefit to those who live within them. Housing is a people’s right, and should not be cause for private profiteering.”

...

Venezuela was once the richest country in South America but is now a crumbling ruin thanks to the socialists who have been in power for two decades. A similar fate awaits us unless we are able to prevent the continued erosion of the institution of private property in this country.

Go read Carlos the Jackal for his opinion of how to bring down the west.
He acknowledged that Marxism by itself could not bring down the west , nor could islam; but an alliance, a coalition of the two could. Obama was both a marxist and a muslim... and a lying radical at that.
This is now the constitution of the DNC.

Ask the Russians what they thought of the government built and provided ghettos that they had under the old Marxist regime.

The GOP needs to run this in AZ.
Nearly everyone here is a landlord.

If the collectivists become entrenched, how long will it be before the single male (me) living in a 3-4-5 bedroom house or condo is vilified for the selfish squandering of more-than-necessary space?
Those extra bedrooms should be put to good use housing needy immigrants! Expenses paid by me, of course.

Well, the Nazi party platform did call for the “Abolition of ground rent and the prevention of all speculation in land” and the “abolition of all income obtained without labor or effort.” That would seem to cover the current efforts. (Nazi party platform of 1920).

but an alliance, a coalition of the two could..

You forgot the third element. A necessary variable to the destruction of the West, viz. lethargic, apathetic conservatives who depend upon corrupt RINO politicians to do the work.

The reality: Repugnant KongressKreeps are no better than the RATs. And conservatives are giving the enemy victory by default.

Heck, we've already given them victory. Abortion and faggism will never go back into the bottle.

Ain’t it the truth. Also, look at what the totalitarian morons under Hitler did to German film, art, etc. It was a new and laughable LOW for cultural expression

Our Hollywierd clowns are doing the same thing to film, art and entertainment, etc. in this country

Rent and rental eviction control in long run invariably leads to housing shortage, property deterioration (nobody will renovate or build new housing for loss) and skyrocketing prices of the only available units.
It is popular with many people, so it have been tried over and over again with exactly the same results all over the world.

They will just make it so that nobody wants to be a landlord anymore. Then their dream of government-run housing will become reality.

Yes they do. I got my apartment because I passed my credit check. Many apartment owners now will check on your credit worthiness.

I’m seeing liberals arguing that tenants should go on rent-strike because rich landlords can afford it. Never mind how most landlords are average people with one to four rental houses. This screws over the old lady renting out the family home while she’s staying in a smaller place or one guy renting out the other three units in a quad-plex.

I can’t remember the source, but it was a Communist saying “support any movement that is an attack on Western civilization, because it is an attack on them.” This explains why liberals support a wide range of causes that often contradict each other.

They aren’t abolishing rent. They are confiscating private property by forcing owners to provide a free home for lazy slobs. The left hates private property, and plans to seize all of it for the collectivity.

They began many years ago with the “property tax” which is a slow-motion seizure of the worth of your property at 3% a year (deceivingly called the “mill rate.”) so that after 33 years the government has acquired the entire value of your property.

You only think you own private property.
