Trump lays down gauntlet for Barr on Durham probe: Either 'greatest attorney general' or 'average guy’

"I hope they're not going to be politically correct,' Trump said

Following Mueller’s investigation, Barr appointed Durham to then investigate the origins of the FBI’s original Russia probe, which began in July 2016, through the appointment of Mueller in May 2017.

Durham’s team includes a number of federal prosecutors, including Jeff Jensen, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri who was tapped by the DOJ in February to review the case against Michael Flynn. In May, Barr also tapped U.S. Attorney for Western Texas John Bash to launch a more focused review on the process of unmasking.

The Justice Department also revealed that Durham, himself, is investigating the unmasking of Trump campaign associates as part of his broader review. That line of investigation was confirmed after Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., made public a list of Obama officials who purportedly requested to “unmask” the identity of Michael Flynn, who at the time was Trump’s incoming national security adviser.

Unmasking occurs after U.S. citizens' conversations are incidentally picked up in conversations with foreign officials who are being monitored by the intelligence community. The U.S. citizens' identities are supposed to be protected if their participation is incidental and no wrongdoing is suspected. However, officials can determine the U.S. citizens' names through a process that is supposed to safeguard their rights. In the typical process, when officials are requesting the unmasking of an American, they do not necessarily know the identity of the person in advance.

The roster featured top-ranking figures including then-Vice President Joe Biden, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-CIA Director John Brennan, then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and Obama’s then-chief of staff Denis McDonough.

Lays down the gauntlet? Stop it.

To think Barr cares how Trump brands him is silliness.

80 days until the election. Latest word was Durham hasn’t even interviewed Brennan. There are not going to be any indictments. I hope the Trust Durham sunshine pumpers have a back up plan. Almost time to deploy it.

How is it that our intelligence had no clue India and the Pakis were and did develop Nuke weapons?

All Justice unmaskings were illegal. All unwarranted intercept of civilian converations are or should be illegal. The politicians and lawyers at justice department better set a new course very soon before violence starts over violations of 4th amendment

“If the President does it, it’s not illegal” - Richard Nixon

If they can make a plausible case they were pursuing a legitimate national security discovery, they will all walk.

But I don’t think they can.

If Barr doesn't get his azz in gear, POTUS should appoint Matt Whitaker AG.

You'd be able to hear the wailing and lamentations from the left clear to the Mississippi.

Just do it!

Barr sounded like he is waiting on Durham.

Who made John Durham Attorney General of the United States? Durham works for Barr. Not the other way around. If Durham has been working bankers hours for the past 1 1/2 years it is with the approval of AG Barr.

That’s my question. These things have been presented as slam dunks so easy a first year lawyer could prosecute them without breaking a sweat. Yet it never seems to happen.

I agree. If there will be any indictments, they will be for mid-level types such as “Stroke” and his paramour, Page. But I don’t see even that happening.

The biggest political scandal in U.S. history and....crickets.
