Amnesty International: USA must drop charges against Julian Assange
Amnesty International ^ | July 31 | Amnesty International

Posted on 08/01/2020 5:25:35 AM PDT by RandFan

Authorities in the USA must drop the espionage and all other charges against Julian Assange that relate to his publishing activities as part of his work with Wikileaks. The US government’s unrelenting pursuit of Julian Assange for having published disclosed documents that included possible war crimes committed by the US military is nothing short of a full-scale assault on the right to freedom of expression

Julian Assange is currently being held at Belmarsh, a high security prison in the UK, on the basis of a US extradition request on charges that stem directly from the publication of disclosed documents as part of his work with Wikileaks. Amnesty International strongly opposes any possibility of Julian Assange being extradited or sent in any other manner to the USA. There, he faces a real risk of serious human rights violations including possible detention conditions that would amount to torture and other ill-treatment (such as prolonged solitary confinement). The fact that he was the target of a negative public campaign by US officials at the highest levels undermines his right to be presumed innocent and puts him at risk of an unfair trial.

Julian Assange’s publication of disclosed documents as part of his work with Wikileaks should not be punishable as this activity mirrors conduct that investigative journalists undertake regularly in their professional capacity. Prosecuting Julian Assange on these charges could have a chilling effect on the right to freedom of expression, leading journalists to self-censor from fear of prosecution.

Yeah I stay awake at night worrying about American war crimes. I really need to let it go.

That was sarcasm.

Because what is considered war crimes by the UN is called self-defense or not taking chances that the guy on the bicycle who you told to stop but didn’t is really a good guy who is just deaf.

Is he a hacker, spy or a journalist?

That’s the question.

If he’s seen as a journalist there can be no case.

Bear in mind it was Manning who was his alleged source and s/he has been punished.

Just as soon as Amnesty International:

1) Reveals their primary donor source

2) Reveals their entire board and executive leadership

3) Each of the puts in writing that they in no way support nor promote socialist totalitarian forms of governments.

Then we can have a chat.

Keep the focus on the case..

Is Assange a hacker or a spy? I dont think there is any evidence he is yet he is being prosecuted under espionage laws from 1913 (World War 1).

There is a real fear he ends up with a judge like Berman Jackson and his trial will not be free or fair. They did it to Roger Stone after all.

Don’t drop the charges. Declare his sentence “already served” due to his time held in the Ecuadorean Embassy in Londo. It should be a crime to publish Defense Department secrets but the poor man has suffered enough already, particularly in light of the other criminals who continue to go free. Dropping the charges (as with Flynn) is like saying he did nothing wrong.

Assange’s case is wide open for some kind of a deal, one which could totally destroy the entire DemonRat party. Granted, there would be some collateral damage, but it could possibly be worth it. That would have to be analyzed.

Would be nice if a deal can be done but the deep state want him in court before the election it seems.

“Assange’s extradition case is due to be heard in the Central Criminal Court – the Old Bailey – on 7 September.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison on each count except for conspiracy to commit computer intrusion, for which he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, the US Department of Justice said.”

Barring a miracle he will lose the extradition case as its rigged.

If he gets to the US, the Clintons and/or the Dims will try to kill Assange for being the recipient of the files that Seth Rich liberated while working for DNC, upset that Bernie wasn’t the nominee.

Now that the “Russia, Russia, Russia” sham has rightfully fallen to pieces, there’s every reason why the spotlight should now be on Seth Rich’s murder/assassination.

Assange knows who gave him Hillary’s eMails.

I believe it was Seth Rich.

I also believe Hillary had Rich murdered.

Assange knows, but will he be willing to tell?

If so, free him.

Bingo. Moreover, Fed.gov is completely FULL of leakers and propagandists, who break the law every single day, for political ends. His crime was merely exposing the wrong people.

There are actions even Trump dares not take. The public spectacle of Assange being extradited, brought to the White House, pardoned by Trump, and thanked for his great assistance in taking down the Enemies of the Republic might set off an avalanche of fatal heart attacks and mysterious one-car accidents among DC insiders, but unfortunately we will never see it.

“Yeah I stay awake at night worrying about American war crimes. I really need to let it go. That was sarcasm.”

We certainly had our share in Kosovo, where we got impatient attacking Serb military targets from 30,000 feet, so we went after civilian targets, like bridges and the Chinese Embassy (and more), in Belgrade.

Of course that was done by a Democrat Administration and the Republicans are too ball-less to even be bothered by it, and the Europeans wanted them bombed...so nothing has come of it, but it seems to fit the definition of a war crime to me - where you bomb civilians into submission to achieve a military objective.

I agree - we’ve learned a boatload since his early days in this business...and there’s tons more.

Gosh, it's odd there's been no extradition. We'll wait to see what happens as a consequence of the Maxwell trial.

Assange knows who gave him Hillary’s eMails.

He's already told Ellen Rather that it was Seth Rich in an interview he had with her in London.

Apparently the parents knew it too......
