As one example among many, the pearl clutchers in the GOP slammed Trump for his comments on McCain.

Thank you for helping me make my point.

If President Trump had better message control, he would have left out the part about "liking the ones who don't get captured", and his message would have been stronger.

He is amazing, speaking the truth everyone else is afraid to speak, over and over again, and the people who listen to him are won over. Then he tweets without thinking, shoots himself in the foot, and all the great things he says, does, and tweets are overshadowed by his unforced error.

Just because I support the President doesn't mean I have to ignore this self-defeating fault, or make all kinds of convoluted rationalizations about how cunning he is when he does this.

Flame away.

I didn’t make your point. If Trump had left out the part you claim he should have, his criticism of McCain would have been much less effective. McCain had been going around for years getting as much political mileage as he could over his capture and using it to avoid legitimate criticism on many issues, include his poor support of veterans.

When Trump referenced McCain’s capture in a less than glowing way, he was essentially saying that he wasn’t going to let McCain hide behind his POW status anymore. That was Trump’s message, and his willingness to express it in such a politically incorrect way is what made it so effective and impressed so many people.

It really is too bad that so many people on Free Republic are not able to think very deeply. They think only in terms of perfect and demonic, and are triggered by anything that does not 100% align with their preconceptions.

They believe that President Trump is Jesus Christ the Messiah, flawless in character and speech, and anybody who might have a critique of any little thing he has ever said or done is necessarily a Never Trumper. These idiots, like the idiot started this thread, just cannot think with any kind of nuance.

I think President Trump has done amazing things over the past few years, and I fully support him. That said, nobody is perfect. I know I risk being demonized for saying so, but even though I affirm most everything President Trump says and does, he is not perfect. Nobody is.
