Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday said he believed many of President Trumps tweets have coarsened discussion, but praised the president for having a backbone."
So many of us are so sick and tired of Republicans that roll over and whimper when encountering the slightest resistance. And I think probably the best characteristic about the president is hes got a backbone. And he will fight, Cruz told conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt, when asked how the president has changed the Republican Party.
Now I will say ... I wish his tone and some of the things he said were different, Cruz added. Many of the tweets Im not a fan of, and I do think it has coarsened discussion. So that is a less-than-positive development.

Agree.
President Trump would be well served by better message discipline.
Just curious....what does cRuz have to say about the violent riots, taking place across the country? Has he condemned them....and, the Dems who are in support of these riots/rioters?
What does Ted say about the brave docs who stood on Capitol Hill and proclaimed the efficacy of HCQ in treating China Virus? Has he offered support of their presser...and, right for them to hold said presser?
What does Ted have to say about the govt overreach of these Dem Govs keeping their states on perpetual lockdown, and obliterating businesses and livelihoods? And, about schools staying closed?
Has he mentioned any of the above??
IMO... Cruz is a DICKHEAD and cannot be trusted.
The buried lede here is the Cruz said dems had plans to get rid of the filibuster, admit Washington DC and Puerto Rico as states, and pack the supreme court. Basically a coup taking over two of the three branches of the government.
= = =
Finally, he says this?
This is what others (Levin, etc.) have been screaming/warning, for months.
Nothing new under the sun, Ted.
Now, what has he said about the chaos and rioting going on all across the country?
The suppressive tech platforms, censoring conservative voices and outlets?
His advocacy, for POTUS, is sorely lacking.
Trump’s instincts are a better guide than any message discipline you, I, or anyone else can offer him. As one example among many, the pearl clutchers in the GOP slammed Trump for his comments on McCain. They were wrong. He articulated something a lot of people had been thinking but which the language gatekeepers insisted shouldn’t be said openly. The end result? The average person gained respect for Trump’s tell it like it is approach, and the country learned that John McCain was not as popular as they were being told.
Another misleading headline.
...but praised the president for having a backbone.”
Would have solved that. It’s almost like they do it intentionally.
Thank you for helping me make my point.
If President Trump had better message control, he would have left out the part about "liking the ones who don't get captured", and his message would have been stronger.
He is amazing, speaking the truth everyone else is afraid to speak, over and over again, and the people who listen to him are won over. Then he tweets without thinking, shoots himself in the foot, and all the great things he says, does, and tweets are overshadowed by his unforced error.
Just because I support the President doesn't mean I have to ignore this self-defeating fault, or make all kinds of convoluted rationalizations about how cunning he is when he does this.
Flame away.
Yep, and it was intentional.
I didn’t make your point. If Trump had left out the part you claim he should have, his criticism of McCain would have been much less effective. McCain had been going around for years getting as much political mileage as he could over his capture and using it to avoid legitimate criticism on many issues, include his poor support of veterans.
When Trump referenced McCain’s capture in a less than glowing way, he was essentially saying that he wasn’t going to let McCain hide behind his POW status anymore. That was Trump’s message, and his willingness to express it in such a politically incorrect way is what made it so effective and impressed so many people.
This is why I trash Cruz, Glenn Beck, and that moron Levin.
They all think we’re going to forget they mouthed support
for Hillary for months on in in 2016, by trashing Trump
constantly.
Screw them then. Screw them now.
I’ll never trust any of the three again.
And thank you for making my point about making convoluted rationalizations about how cunning he is when he shoots himself in the foot.
I’ve been a Trump guy since day one. But during the primary I was hoping Trump and Cruz would team up. That would have caused many heads to explode. Sadly it was not to be.
Dear Ted:
Thank you for reminding me why I dumped you and became a Trump supporter 4 years ago.
There’s nothing convoluted about my argument Jeff. You’re just not that bright. And how is it that you know Trump shot himself in the foot with his comment? The answer is, you don’t know.
Throughout 2016 Trump kept ‘shooting himself in the foot’ much to the angst of people like yourself who wanted him to run his campaign like a good milquetoast Republican. He proved you and your ilk wrong in November, but you never learn.
What a tool that Ted. Go pass out some Teddy bears on the border FRAUD.
Hey Ted.....the Democrats...All of them have COARSENED our entire Culture by being VILE and EVIL!
Covfefe is the only tweet I'll ever remember.
