Breakdown. The unwinding of law and order in our cities has happened with stunning speed.
City Journal ^ | July 1, 2020 | Heather Mac Donald

It took several months for the first iteration of the Ferguson Effect to become obvious. Michael Brown was fatally shot by a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer in August 2014, triggering local riots and a national narrative about lethally racist police. Officers backed off proactive policing in minority neighborhoods, having been told that such discretionary enforcement was racially oppressive. By early 2015, the resulting spike in shootings and homicides had become patent and would lead to an additional 2,000 black homicide victims in 2015 and 2016, compared with 2014 numbers.

Today’s violent-crime increase—call it Ferguson Effect 2.0 or the Minneapolis Effect—has come on with a speed and magnitude that make Ferguson 1.0 seem tranquil. George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police in late May was justly condemned—but the event has now spurred an outpouring of contempt against the pillars of law and order that has no precedent in American history. Every day, another mainstream institution—from McDonald’s to Harvard—denounces the police, claiming without evidence that law enforcement is a threat to black lives.

To be sure, the first manifestation of the Black Lives Matter movement had a mouthpiece in the Oval Office, lacking now. It doesn’t matter. Presidential imprimatur or no, the reborn Black Lives Matter has gained billions of dollars in corporate support, more billions in free round-the-clock media promotion, and a ruthless power to crush dissent from the now-universal narrative about murderous police bigots. During the two weeks of national anarchy that followed the death of George Floyd, cops were shot, slashed, and assaulted; their vehicles and station houses were firebombed and destroyed. American elites stayed silent. Since then, police have continued to be shot at and attacked; the elites remain silent.

They’ve already brought a lawsuit in Seattle, but unfortunately I believe they can only successfully sue the city, not the political leaders, since they have immunity. So it is the taxpayers who will suffer, not the bad actors.

“The Democrats are planning to herd people Into socially engineered communities.”

The Democrats are going to find that it’s not a simple matter to herd apex predators.

When the mayors say stand down and the DA’s say we won’t prosecute that’s what happens.

I’ve noticed for years the arrogant and ignorant “it can’t happen here” attitude. People weren’t paying attention.

George Santayana's truism about people who ignore history.

Pray for America. Meanwhile, I'm headed out to our local gun store to see what guns I can't live without.

Why not sue the politicians? They DID take an oath of office, right?

With murder-anyone associated with decision-making or with carrying out policy (or, failing to carry out policy) have to bear responsibility. Don’t they?

Yes, if you can show some dereliction on their part, then you could invalidate their immunity and successfully sue them. However, I think you’ll find that very rarely works in court. There has to be some very clear-cut evidence or the court is going to err on the side of believing the official was acting in good faith.

Because liberals in power agree with the violent liberal mobs.

Well-maybe... but “believing the official was acting in good faith” may not protect them in a case where a death is involved.

Also, with a class-action suit- businesses (especially in THIS economic climate) may succeed, because no city or community can re build if businesses are not shown that leadership takes responsibility and actually CARES about business owners.

If leadership ‘gets off the hook’ so to speak, then what business wants to rebuild... or what business wants to locate in that community?

MacDonald lists a set of what should be horrifying stories and statistics, but for some reason, I don’t care.

Yet.

I’ve been doing that for 50 years and have pretty much run out of ideas.

Doing what? Praying for America or browsing gun stores?
