The Defense Department said late Monday that there is no corroborating evidence to support the explosive New York Times report last week that said the Russian military offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
The report sent shock waves through Washington and prompted President Trump to outright deny knowing anything about the intel cited in the report.
To date, DOD has no corroborating evidence to validate the recent allegations found in open-source reports. Regardless, we always take the safety and security of our forces in Afghanistanand around the worldmost seriously and therefore continuously adopt measures to prevent harm from potential threats, Jonathan Hoffman, the chief Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

If the Pentagon did have corroborating evidence it would have been leaked by now.
First of all, why would the Taliban need any money or encouragement from Russia or anybody else to target US troops? They already were doing their best to maximize US casualties.
The real motive for the "intelligence" on Russian bounties had nothing to do with Russia or the Taliban, and everything to do with discrediting Trump. If the deep state and the mass media could create a false narrative where Trump ignored "intelligence" about attacks on US troops, they might chip away some of his core support. Or so the plan went, before yet another Deep State fraud was uncovered.
Does anybody remember the ‘80s when we gave arms to the Afgans to kill Soviets. Was that now wrong?
The WH shouldn’t want this story to go away.
TRUMP and team should hold an URGENT Press Conference where this initial claim is totally debunked and dismissed with a quick pivot to the DAMAGE being caused by SHODDY REPORTING and “UN-NAMED SOURCES”. Trump should then hand off the meeting for a visual presentation of the 10-15 press claims, meant to hurt Trump, have been retracted, dismissed and proven false.
Take NO more than 1 or 2 questions from “friendlier” reporters and then call it a day.
The WH needs to start using these Press Briefings to attack the credibility of the Press.
Did you hear that the New York Times is offering a bounty to anyone who will make up stories about Trump? That’s what anonymous sources are telling me.
Yeah, both have had their share of fake news.
If the press and the Deep State want to make up a story like this to make Trump look bad, at least make it plausible, e.g. Russians arming or funding the Taliban at least sounds believable. This is just a crude story concocted to make Trump look bad for "ignoring intelligence reports", without even bothering to dot the i's or cross the t's in the claim itself
Stories will be made up every day to try to bury the President.
Everything is being thrown out him including the kitchen sink!
Well, they held a press conference yesterday and she attacked the NYTimes for its bad reporting but obviously it had no impact even in conservative circles.
I saw it. It needs to be done DAILY. Go right thru them every time.
Of course it’s wrong: A Republican POTUS did it.
Hmm.... a good portion of the troops and their families would probably vote for Trump again so they need to try to put it out there that he doesn’t really care about them or their safety. This can be spun by them a few different ways and still could get them the result they want.
Too many people go by their emotions and not using their brains to get the facts or at least go beyond the headlines and get more information than what media wants them to know.
Very possibly because Aftgans live in the 7th century and their loyalties are only to their savage little tribes.
I said the same thing first, when the fake BS came out.
There was no great persecution killing 3 million Georgians in the 1930s according to the NYT.
I think you mean Ukrainians.
“Stand Up”?
Some editor hoped readers just skipped over the article.
Also, the Harry Reid method of foiling an opponent: Just make a baseless accusation, damn the opponent for it, and dare to be “proven wrong.”
ROFLOL! That would make for an incredible Babylon Bee story!
