WSJ Editorial: The Trump Referendum. (Trump is beating Trump)
WSJ ^

Posted on 06/26/2020 10:19:24 AM PDT by Bigtigermike

President Trump may soon need a new nickname for “Sleepy Joe” Biden. How does President-elect sound? On present trend that’s exactly what Mr. Biden will be on Nov. 4, as Mr. Trump heads for what could be an historic repudiation that would take the Republican Senate down with him.

Mr. Trump refuses to acknowledge what every poll now says is true: His approval rating has fallen to the 40% or below that is George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter territory. They’re the last two Presidents to be denied a second term. This isn’t 2017 when Mr. Trump reached similar depths after failing to repeal ObamaCare while blaming Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. He regained support with tax reform and a buoyant economy that really was lifting all incomes.

Now the election is four months away, voters know him very well, and Mr. Trump has reverted to his worst form. His record fighting the coronavirus is better than his critics claim after a bad start in late February and March. He mobilized federal resources to help hard-hit states, especially New York.

But he wasted his chance to show leadership by turning his daily pandemic pressers into brawls with the bear-baiting press and any politician who didn’t praise him to the skies. Lately he has all but given up even talking about the pandemic when he might offer realism and hope about the road ahead even as the country reopens. His default now is defensive self-congratulation.

Americans don’t like racial enmity and they want their President to reduce it. Mr. Trump has preached racial harmony on occasion, but he gives it all back with riffs that misjudge the national moment.

Seriously, you believe this drek?

The WSJ are never trumpers. They want to go back to pre 2016 policies and don’t give a crap about American families or workers.

Bingo!

He has shown empathy.

He has not been racist.

He condemned the George Floyd death.

He dealt with the pandemic - massively.

With the WSJ this is all about immigration

“more accurate than 2016”

What makes you believe that?

The Wall Street Journal, which proudly champions global investors and not blue collar America, will surely celebrate if Trump loses the election.

Because socialist Democrats are more closely aligned to the WSJ’s global citizen agenda than anything that says MAGA.

FLASHBACK: Exactly four years ago today, 6/26/2016, the media said it was impossible for Trump to overcome a 12-point Clinton lead!

And Trump didn't. He lost the popular vote by a little over 2 percentage points if you remember.

Which is why nationwide polls don't matter. Show me polls from Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arizona, Florida and that'll determine whether Trump is in trouble or not.

Wrong. Why are you posting this?

The WSJ are never trumpers.

It is not fair to the WSJ board to call them never Trumpers, and not fair to the real never Trumpers to lump the WSJ board with them.

The WSJ board, with Paul Gigot and Kimberley Strassel, are devout Trump supporters on 80% of the topics. They treat Trump very respectfully. They have been accused of some of the same things that Trump has (climate deniers, biased against minorities, etc.).

If something is not resonating with the American people, I am sure Kellyanne will adjust what needs to be done. And remember Kellyanne is polling also.

We have your back Mr. President.

They treat Trump very respectfully.

Not in this article, which lies about the polls.

The thing that bothers me is I would have expected the polling orgs to take a hard look at why they got it so wrong in 16 and fixed it. They were damn close in 18. So I am not sure the solace we are taking in polls being the same as 16 is warranted. It is worth noting MSM is effectively rigging the election at this point. For example not one of the major Netwowrks even mentioned the rats killed the police reform bill in the Senate two days ago. I expect the DNC to kill or rig the debates. There is time for this to turn around but there is not much room for opitmism.

Tucker said much the same thing last night. Though very many folks here on FR will vehemently disagree, I believe Trump is in trouble. Running against Biden’s dementia is not enough. He will NEVER be given the opportunity to demonstrate it. He needs to start governing. And he can start by getting DoJ to move on the hoaxers and ANTIFA/BLM. He needs to put forth an eco plan to restore prosperity. He needs to detail how he will meet the ChiCom threat. Four months is not a lot of vfc time but tweeting about Biden and pointing to the world before Covid is not enough.

Obama’s approval was at about 45 to 46% at about this time in 2012, while Trump’s is at about 47%. This likely means Trump still has his main base plus a little bit more. You can even think back to this time in 1992 when GHWB would likely have commanded that good bit of a lower number with a good number of conservatives staying home or voting for Ross Perot. And WJC won partly also by wooing back some Reagan Democrats in the South.

There was no way to fix what they got wrong in 2016. Even the exit polls were wrong in 2016 -- which means people were lying to the pollsters even AFTER they had voted.

I suspect a huge problem with these polls is the reality that a lot of people simply won't admit who they are supporting.

Big difference. People knew Hillary and now people know Trump. I’ve been warning the same thing for a little while now. Trump’s about to defeat himself if he can’t get it together. He can’t just run against Biden and expect to win. He needs a positive agenda and to be focused. Instead he comes off as thin skinned and desperate getting pulled into needless drama with the press.

We wouldn’t expect differently of other Republican presidents, we need to hold Trump to the same standard. He rambled in his town hall with Hannity.

The Editorial Board of WSJ is a bit more pro Trump than the rest of it, yes.
But there is still a strong vein of GOPe running through the establishment.
Plus of course they can be wrong like everyone else. Their analysis and possible cure for the supposed malaise is wrong in this instance.
