Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer are not sold on the polls that show former Vice President Joe Biden with a growing lead over President Donald Trump.
The Democrats made their remarks at a Michigan Women for Biden event on Monday, the Detroit News reported.
“Some people say, ‘Oh, look at the numbers,'” Dingell said. “I don’t believe these numbers.”
Dingell said given the events of the past few months, a lot can unfold over the next few months leading up to November’s election.
“The world is upside down and not one of us on this phone call would have predicted that the world will be as it is today,” she said.
Dingell said she felt the same way about the polls that favored Hillary Clinton over Trump in 2016.
“Four years ago, many of you on this phone call thought that I was nuts,” Dingell said. “I was in enough communities and heard enough people talking that I was very worried about the outcome of that election.”
Fox News reported on a poll from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal that shows Biden seven points ahead of Trump nationally. A RealClear Politics poll average has Biden up 7.3 points over Trump in Michigan.
Whitmer, who was at one point on the list of Biden’s possible vice presidential picks, agreed with Dingell.
“We don’t want people to get complacent or for people to think showing up in Michigan doesn’t matter,” she said. “I know Joe Biden gets it. I know he’ll be here.”

What, like fifteen hundred people in mostly Democrat/liberal states?
Since this morning I’ve been seeing stories quoting various Dems and “celebrities” and media types saying “Don’t believe those Joe Biden poll numbers!”
I think the DNC is worried that low-info Democrats seeing Joe with this big lead will revolt if and when they try to replace him.
No polls CAN be reliable nowadays. No one answers their home phone unless they are a dinosaur due to spam calls. Many don’t answer their mobile unless they know the caller. Most don’t want to spend time answering a poll. Small sample size.
In addition to the factors you mentioned, I suspect that there are a number of Trump supporters out there who are reluctant to tell a stranger on the phone that they support Trump. People don’t want to be perceived as being racist sexist homophobic and deplorable.
Trump will win Michigan.
The polls they cite are nonsense.
Reliable sources report biden’s recent basement interview attracted a whopping 68 viewers.
They’re reliable, very reliable. Biden has such an insuperable lead that the Democrats don’t even need to campaign in Michigan!
A third factor is the one that doomed Hillary in 2016.
Black voters said they would vote for her when called by the pollsters.
On election day many in Detroit, Flint, Philadelphia and Milwaukee stayed home.
Voter turnout is impossible to measure by polling, since people will always tell pollsters they plan to vote.
The proof of this was when Donna Brazile was asked by reporters on election night what happened in Michigan, her answer was simple:
“We didn’t get the turnout we expected in Flint and Detroit.”
That is a very good situation for 2020—President Trump’s voters are highly motivated, and Biden is a _very_ weak candidate with low enthusiasm from average Democrats.
Just the shenanigans going on the past couple of weeks should get Trump millions more votes.

Biden is way ahead among the millions and millions of illegal and fake voters who will be going to the polls in November.
People don’t want to be perceived as being racist sexist homophobic and deplorable - and get their cars keyed or their windows broken or nasty phone calls.
Hard core Democrats hated candidate Trump in 2016—it didn’t work then, it won’t work now.
If you don’t believe me, take a look at the mass media coverage during the campaign of 2016—it was raw hostility on a scale never before in a Presidential campaign.

I can believe that the Rat Party's nominee will get a bigger share of the votes in Kalifornia,New York,Massachusetts and Maryland than did ILLary but then the Seahawks,Falcons and Rams gained more total yards than did the Patriots in the last few Super Bowls.
There’s few things more completely wrong than a MI Democrat.
Probably 100 percent, not just 99, of fraudulent votes will be cast for Biden.
