McConnell 'OK' with renaming US bases

Top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell says he's "OK" with renaming military bases that are named after Confederate Army officers, declining to side with President Donald Trump and other Republicans opposed to the move.

The Kentucky senator said he'll live with whatever lawmakers decide as they debate an annual defence policy bill for the military in the coming weeks.

Trump has blasted the calls to rename the military bases. "Hopefully our great Republican Senators won't fall for this!" he said in a tweet last week.

May God save America

Not really sure we’re deserving of that.

We’ve squandered our blessings of liberty.

I certainly believe the Republican party does not deserve President Trump and his sacrifices.

What a doormat China Mitch is. McConnell is a natural born Minority Leader.

Mitch could be yanked after 36 years from the Senate in the KY race this year. He is useless except on the judicial confirmations.

I’m not so sure; the Dems are surging again in the KY Senate race.

That’s why we have a Representative form of government.

The Reps have a first obligation to the U. S. Constitution
and the Laws of this nation.

Then comes the will of the people.

We don’t have mob rule, and what is right, is right, damn
the constituency.

Should rape be legalized? No. Doesn’t matter what the
constituency thinks.

He’s been in elective office so long I didn’t realize he is a lawyer.

Is Mitch trying to throw the election? He undercuts the President and deflates GOP enthusiasm at one stroke. The Left never gives up, stays united, and always seeks power and control. Republicans run off in various directions and won’t stand their ground as a group.

Agree 100%. Why does the GOPe have a death wish?

So, you would like to see McConnell voted out of office? And which RAT would replace him? And how would that be an improvement?

The worst RINO is better than the best RAT — except for Romney, but we still need his seat.

I don’t agree with everything Mitch does, but he has been fine on judicial appointments, etc.

Wrong. We do not need coup enabling Republicans like McConnell. A coup is like pregnancy. You can’t be a little bit of a coupist. Either you are or you are not. McConnell has steadfastly refused to support POTUS against the years long Deep State coupist assault.

Apparently, you haven’t noticed their is no opposition party to the progressive corportist agenda.

Here Doormat McConnell is once again waving the white flag and defacto supporting the progressive agenda.

This country is on the brink precisely because of traitors like McConnell. Support them if you wish. I won’t be.

I want him gone and losing his seat is fine with me.

Nothing will change until the GOPe fears the base. A good fumigation of the US Senate is certainly in order.

The real question is what names will be acceptable for the bases? I shudder to think what they will come up with.

It’s simply not up to Mitch...he doesn’t “own” the Senate.

Oh, really? Is McConnell Majority Leader or Majority Bystander? It’s a fact Reid or Schumer would never betray a Dem POTUS like this.

Re name the bases to.... what? How about the original Founders.

Fort Jefferson, Fort Washington, Fort Adams, Fort Monroe, Fort Madison, Fort Franklin, Fort Rush, Fort Henry Lee (Light Horse Harry Lee Rev. War), or Fort Richard Henry Lee (who introduced the Lee Resolution for Independence).

So— we will then see— it is NOT about Confederates is about destroying the entire BASIS of the formation of the USA.

They will name them after places. We are lead by cowards. Craven cowards.

The notion of War Fighters is to have esprit des corps. Naming something after a place is not going to engender the “War Face” and tradition needed for a world class kicka@@ military force. There has to be hero fighters, legends.

Like why— even up until today there has not been a Fort George Patton? Instead we have really nothing names like Fort Ord, and Fort Marcie.

And how about Fort Dix-—after James Adams Dix a union general notable for arresting the pro-Southern Maryland General Assembly, preventing that divided border state from coming into a quorum session to vote on seceding. And yet he worked out a prisoner exchange system with CSA general D.H. Hill.

So, changing the names of military bases is like rape.

I am pretty sure that is not what you mean.

You are passionate in your convictions, but I find your argument somewhat less than persuasive. I hate to get personal, but I’ve read a great many of your posts over the last few months and you strike me as a little bit of a hothead on some issues.

I’m probably the biggest hothead on FR — but over many years, I’ve forced myself to set my emotions aside and let my opinions be guided only be verifiable facts.

My take on the GOP establishment isn’t that they are “traitors,” as you say, but that they’ve been beaten down by the ever-aggressive RATs and their enemedia enablers.

Not many people have the fortitude to go stand up to relentless slander and vilification.

Show me one issue since the Reagan years in which the enemedia has treated the GOP and conservatives fairly.

Operating in such an environment is enough to wear down anyone’s morale. I might not like the timidity of the GOPe but I can understand it.

And don’t accuse me of making excuses for anyone. As I stated in my earlier post, I reserve my right not to have an opinion — at least until I’m satisfied with the facts I’ve gathered.

Of course, if I sought popularity on these threads, I would urge patriots to storm Capitol Hill with AR-15s blazing.

We spend a lot of time on these threads bickering among ourselves, insulting anyone who disagrees with us in the slightest. Hunched over our computers, we’re far from where world-changing events are taking place.

Yet these threads are populated by any number of “experts.”

And above all, we don’t have access to all the information that Trump has. Oh the questions I could ask if this old, retired reporter (me) got 20 minutes one on one with our great president ...

You piss ant - this is what is wrong with reps - they are really DEMs ‘buttboys’ in hiding with their underwear pulled down and their asses stuck out shinning ready for the next public DEM big daddy on all the issues just after TRUMP has stated his opposite opinion! They really want to loose everything this year WH, SEN, HOUSE again!
