The Prime Minister plans to reduce Huawei’s involvement in Britain’s 5G network in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, the Telegraph has learned.

Boris Johnson has instructed officials to draw up plans that would see China’s involvement in the UK’s infrastructure scaled down to zero by 2023.

It comes as Mr Johnson is poised to visit the US for the G7 summit next month in his first trip abroad since the crisis began.

Having called for the UK to become more self-sufficient and less reliant on China for goods, he is expected to ramp up trade talks with US President Donald Trump as Brexit negotiations with the EU have become increasingly fractious.

(EXCERPT)

Earlier on Friday, The Times reported that Johnson has instructed civil servants to make plans to end Britain’s reliance on China for vital medical supplies and other strategic imports.

Beijing is being criticised for its handling of the coronavirus outbreak, which began in China. Beijing denies U.S. allegations it has not been transparent about the outbreak.

“He (Johnson) still wants a relationship with China but the Huawei deal is going to be significantly scaled back. Officials have been instructed to come up with a plan to reduce Huawei’s involvement as quickly as possible,” a source was quoted by the Telegraph as saying.

The development would be a change of direction for Britain, which in late April confirmed it would allow Huawei to have a role in building its 5G phone network.

Allowing Red China to supply you with vital communications infrastructure is giving them the opportunity to spy on you and to shut you down at will. Incredibly stupid to let them provide anything, period.

I do too. The western world needs to stop dealing with China and start making our own stuff. It was suicide for us to be lured in by their slave wage labor costs. Self-sufficiency between the western nations needs to be our path forward.

Enough with the half measures, either Britain bans Huawei or they can pound sand.
