My last year in public school was in seventh grade.

I intentionally picked a fight with a bully and he beat the crap out of me.

I told my parents that if they didn’t get me to a private school I would come home looking like that every day.

It worked.

Life has been good ever since. ;-)

They do this nationally to. They seem to think New York is the United States.

pretending that this isn't horrible for the kids.....many are going to fall well behind their peers...

middle class kids with parents at home will do okay....the lower working classes and the poor will not have the discipline to enforce learning at home....

communists...anyone supporting this lockdown is a communist...

teachers will never see a loss of pay....even a hint of “laying off teachers” gets the media in the martyrdom narrative....

I feel for you, FRiend. Seventh grade is the worst. Little savages on the warpath.

I finished in public school and the last couple years weren’t bad at all. The rest I try to forget.

But I can tell you that, to this day, I don’t exactly have warm feelings for children in general.

Without strict discipline, they act like something out of “Lord of the Flies” — a very unpleasant book but one full of harsh truths.

Have you seen how their parents act?! And it starts from the moment Oswald or Elvira begin toddling around. It’s disgraceful.

You’re quite right. Thank God my parents didn’t let me run wild.

Thinking about it, my fondest childhood memory may have been the first time Mom and Dad took me to the public library.

The start of a lifelong love affair with books, especially history.

Yet, I bet, just somehow, I bet the school district petitions for a property tax increase anyway.

We’re in Bucks County (Philly suburb) and I wouldn’t count on our schools opening on time in the fall. Many younger parents I know and have talked to are completely lost trying to “teach” their kids (exceptions being those who were already homeschooling). The “Zoom” type classrooms are not working for most of the kids. They are distracted, bored, defiant and off-task constantly. Some moms (and/or Dads) are dealing with infants or toddlers while trying to supervise their older siblings’ schooling, all while worrying about when or if they can get back to work and hoping they don’t lose their homes. These kids are going to be at least a year behind their peers who are able to return to school on schedule. Sad.

.. and 90% of the fools will STILL vote for communists like that maggot ‘governor’ they’ve inflicted on the rest of the state.

Pardon me while I find giving much of a damn rather problematic.

I’m assuming your Education Secretary isn’t quite as out to lunch as your Health Secretary.

Rumor has it that the education secretary had two sex changes, once to a woman, then back to man. But that wasn't enough. He was unsatisfied that he was no longer in a protected class, so he had an ethnicity change from white to Latino. He is currently thinking about getting his body tattooed to look like a Bengal tiger so he can start a species transition. </sarc>

"Philly is a hotbed."

516 deaths in Philadelphia County with a population of around 1.5 million is unfortunate, but I wouldn't call it a hotbed. It's roughly in proportion to neighboring suburban Montgomery County with 244 deaths with a population of 830,000. These are populous areas, but hospitals are furloughing employees for lack of work. Some people are cowering at home and scolding or snitching on neighbors. Others are going out walking, food shopping, and taking drives. The flyover of the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds this week brought out lots of people, who mostly kept some distance from one another. I think it's high time we got back to work, school, and our communities of faith.

"The “Zoom” type classrooms are not working for most of the kids. They are distracted, bored, defiant and off-task constantly. "

We're in the adjacent county and I used to teach in yours. We retired over the summer but I still get the school emails. Recently we saw one where the principal made a point of telling the kids to get out of bed before connecting to their Zoom classrooms because it is hard to stay awake when you're going to school from bed. We have Zoom meetings for our youth troop. Talking to one of the girls yesterday she related how she has all her school work finished by 9:30 in the morning and has the day free to do other things. Her brother sleeps until 11 and takes at least twice as long to get his work done. Another girl said she really misses seeing her friends and she's having trouble keeping up with her work. There's a tremendous range in how kids and families are coping with this emergency remote learning. From the level of illness around here, we should be re-opening - with care. Hospitals are furloughing personnel for lack of work. This is all about the election.
