U.S. marriage rate is at record low

The U.S. marriage rate is lower than at any point in over a century, with only 6.5 unions per 1,000 people, a government statistics agency reported Wednesday.

The National Center for Health Statistics' National Vital Statistics System, a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said data for 2018, the most recent year analyzed, showed a decline from 6.9 marriages per 1,000 people in 2017. The 2018 figure is the lowest rate since the federal government began collecting data in 1867.

"Millennials [referring to those born between roughly 1980 and 1996] are in peak marriage years, their 20s and 30s, and it's still dropping," said Sally Curtin, the report's lead author. "This is historic."

Historically, the U.S. marriage rate has seen significant fluctuation, the NCHS noted. The rates ranged between 9.3 marriages per 1,000 and 12.0 per 1,000 from 1900 to 1929 before declining to 7.9 per thousand in 1932. It more than doubled between 1932 and 1946, the era of the Great Depression and World War II, and reached an all-time high of 16.4 per 1,000. It declined in the 1950s, increased in the 1960s and then reached 10.9 per thousand in 1972. From 1982 to 2009, marriage rates almost steadily declined, before stabilizing from 2009 to 2017 at a range between 6.8 and 7.0 per 1,000.

Knowledge is power.

It appears that the number of marriages mirrors church attendance. According to Gallop the percentage of Americans claiming to be religious was:
1998/2000 - 90%
2016/2000 - 77%
- those claiming no religion was:
1998/2000 - 8%
2016/2000 - 19%

It seems we have lost our way along the way!!

Marriage: Just find some good looking broad, have a great weekend, go on a trip, then buy her a house. Same deal without the hassles.

I’ve been married for over 20 years, but far too many of my friends have not had an easy time of it.

Hubby is working from home and he is dillegent about it; so, it doesn't seem much different from when he was working at the office.

We will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this coming January. I am hoping all of this foolishness is over and we can go to our favorite restaurant for special occasions.

My daughter did one of those dating services and came up with an absolute gem. They will be married 3 years this September. He had been married before, sounds like there was a lot of fighting. That marriage did produce a child, boy. A couple of years ago his ex-wife committed suicide and the son came to live with his father and my daughter. She seemed quite overwhelmed by it all, at first. But, a couple of months ago her husband went on a business trip and she was all by herself with the boy. He is a very sociable little guy and she was having to take him all over for all of his activities. She wrote me a note, thanking me for all of the driving around that I did for her when she was young because she was now noticing that it is a pain; but, we do it anyway because we love them. It was nice to get a little recognition from the adult child about some of the extra things that we do for them.

Two other points

1. With the state pushing perversion and allowing homosexuals to marry I (I am an ordained minister) refuse to marry any couple that HAS a state marriage license.

Christian couples should NOT at this time, become legally married. Marry before God but live together in the eyes of the state.

Conduct NO weddings in your church. Rent a banquet hall in a hotel, or conduct the ceremony in a private home. This prevents the perverts from taking you to court. This is not surrendering it is conducting asymmetrical warfare against the gaystapo.

I do not know how widespread this position is but I am not the only one who holds it.

2. Many, especially Western States have “Common Law” marriage laws on the books. If a couple lives together, have a joint financial account after 90 days they are considered married. Perhaps we need to look at marriage through that gestalt? Couple that live together for years are married.

For example, the actors Kirt Russel and Goldie Hawn have lived together for something like 40 years. They have children together. They’re faithful to each other. They’re married. I snicker when such people claim they are not married to each other.

Just some thoughts

“I could go on and on and on. If anyone really cannot see the value of marriage, then they’ve cucked themselves into believing the femi-nazis and the liberals as they have redefined what marriage really is.”

They Liberals have largely redefined what marriage is and if you get into the wrong marriage it is a really bad deal. Especially for men.

That said, it is far from hopeless. Their are still many good people of both sexes.

Just better be really careful and more importantly very lucky.

Besides what is the alternative? Becoming an incel!

Sorry but marriage has become a millstone around the neck for men.

No, it's their porn use that has been the mill stone around society. Children are abducted and raped, women and young girls are sex trafficked to feed the porn industry. Men wank off to the destruction of others. That is why marriage in this country is eroding. Porn kills relationships and lives.

How many of those who will not remarry are receiving alimony and/or child support payments and don't want to give it up?

How many of them are never married individuals in a relationship with someone receiving alimony and/or child support payments and don't want to give that up?

How many of them will not marry because it means they will lose government benefits?

When did marriage become a contract with the State and what will it take to remove them from it?

A government that has voided prenuptial agreements is not one you want to contract with.

Interesting to see a pastor view the world like you do. It is uncommon.

I was listening to Moody radio Saturday: Focus on the Family Weekend Magazine with the hosts Daly/Fuller. Some older couple was asking if they could get married like you suggested. They were concerned about the legal entanglements of their assets and inheritance with their children. They think their adult children would freak out over the inheritance thing and the advice was this: I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to get legally married. And to find some lawyer to do paperwork so they could do it.

IMO marriage isn’t marriage anymore due to no fault divorce. Your religious vows are nullified by the state so what’s the point? Sure go ahead and use the gay marriage thing if that is your hill to die on. But for crying out loud no fault divorce has already DESTROYED MARRIAGE.

If you have sermons on the subject, I’d love to hear them. Share the link if you do please.

A very good friend caught his wife cheating. She came back from a business conference and he thought he would be a goodguy and help her unpack. Found sexy crotchless type panties and garter belts he had never seen before and they where worn.
She fessed up and said she had sex with a male coworker that she got nothing out of the marriage anymore after 20 years.

Bitter divorce right now. He is a high wage earner and she is taking him to the cleaners even though she was the one who cheated

>>>Bitter divorce right now. He is a high wage earner and she is taking him to the cleaners even though she was the one who cheated<<<

A lot of men in the manosphere say the 19th amendment was a mistake. My observation is that women are quick to demand changes for slights against their gender, mostly imagined nowadays (like the pay gap). But when there is real injustice, like fathers who can’t visit their children and the offending mother does not get punished, are biased against getting custody of their kids and often forced into a near state of poverty from family court, the women as a voting block are SILENT.

As long as women stay silent on injustices committed against men by the family court, I say that voting bloc is poison. And going back to the original topic, who wants to marry such a woman that is willfully blind to such things?

No wonder we are at the END of our civilization. Family is destroyed (no marriage, easy divorce), church is destroyed (lockdown), progeny destroyed (abortion), and the economy is destroyed (lockdown ditto).

I wouldn’t wish marriage on my son or nephews.

Neither would I.
46 y.o. . 20 years of marriage. Its all a racket. In todays feminized society men have got to be bat$hit crazy to get married.

No Fault Divorce was supposed to be a panacea. Supposedly before No Fault, divorces were real ugly affairs where each side hired detectives to try and get dirt on the other party in order to get the divorce to go their way. In some cases decoys were used to try and get the other party to cheat.

Now that we have No Fault Divorce things haven't changed a bit. You still have women lying about being abused so that they can get full custody of the children and full child support. And there are still creepy detectives being used to try and entrap hapless spouses.

Another data point proving Milton Friedman's rule that every law ends up having the exact opposite effect of that intended.
