The Chinese Flu is doing the same thing to many “badass” men

Knowing what a hospital corner is....

Perhaps the most succinct definition of civilization, ever.

“Just think of it, you’ll never have to cook or wash dishes again.”

Nice to see someone with a brain.

Lifestyle changes due to fear of a phony plague are not going to turn us into better people.

No kidding. Anyone who talks about being badass ....isn’t a badass. Most of these “badass women” are probably good at acting liking victims and whining about empowerment. The real badass women are too busy actually doing things.

On one hand, I’m glad that the girls in this story got a taste of what life can offer if you step out of the rat race.

...On the other hand, these girls sound tedious. They spend two hours of their day doing crafts from kits they ordered off amazon, or all day making one batch of biscuts with every single ingredient and sets of measuring cups and spoons shipped to their door from a grocery delivery service (because they didn’t have much in the pantry other than takeout menus) and instructed on every basic technique via a YouTube video... and they think they’re homemakers.

I’d bet that every craft, every dish, every step along the way has been dutifully posted on several social media venues with a “look how I’m rocking quarantine life” hashtag. I hope I’m wrong and this is truly a sea change, but likely the obnoxious people who used to tool around the fancy bakery asking dumb questions are now just going to be obnoxious people at the bakery tooling around and asking dumb questions but now want everyone to consider them smart because they made sourdough bread one time.

401k and investments

no kidding, sold the house in San Francisco 4 years ago after 20 years of big city income. My 401k plus the equity from the house allowed me to retire 18 months ago. Was a little nervous not sure if the money would last long enough but the budget is coming in much lower than I anticipated, living the good life is easy if you planned for it.

Re badass women, I liked Ruth and Darlene on OZARK

This is the type yahoo who would be trapped in a place like that utopian hippy commune in Panama. Working a farm is not the same as going to Citerella Market on the upper east side and ordering whatever your little heart desires, prepared. 4AM is not closing time at the wine bar, it is wake up time to milk the cows!

There will be a lot of women who discover that they can have a good life by taking care of their family and teaching their kids life skills. Dads too.

We taught our son and daughter how to cook from an early age. That has paid off very well for them.

I doubt if an unemployed DJ would be living high off her 401(k). She might be a trust fund kid, but otherwise she would probably make more money driving a tractor. Of course, she would miss the glamor of the club lifestyle, with all 57 genders partying ‘till dawn in a drug induced haze.

...When this is all over, she says, “I want to live on a farm, adopt a bunch of kids and make art.”

Well, two out of three isn't bad.

Not a bad one, either.

If they averaged $100 a day to eat out as a couple (remember, we’re talking 3 meals a day), then after a year they would spend over $36,000 for meals.

While a $40,000 kitchen makeover is excessive, IF they made almost all their meals at home, over the long run the kitchen remodel would be the more frugal option.

You’ve got women in this article who say they have never cooked till now. I wonder how many are finding how much more money is in their bank account because they aren’t eating out?

This has always been the dirty secret of feminist who push women in the work force. Sure, they make more money, but they are also spending more money on: eating out, child care, transportation, & clothing. For many women who work full time, their entire take home pay goes for these expenses that wouldn’t even exist if they were stay at home moms.

The next thing you know, she will be collecting pots and pans for the war effort and organizing war bond drives. Deja vu all over again and hooray for the Red White and Blue.

Obviously I was just teasing him but I do think it’s funny. These NYC women are “Discovering” their kitchen like it was a foreign country.

Hey, Bloomberg told her how easy it was. You dig a hole, you put in the seed, you pour water on it, and up comes corn. You really don’t have much to do everyday on a farm except sit around and create works of art all the crops grow and harvest themselves.

And I love that her idea of a badass woman is a 27 year old DJ. So I guess badass means works at a nightclub till 2 or 3 in the morning every night sleeps in late, no man, and no job skills. I would be ashamed of my daughter lived that way

One thing that this episode has exposed is how much of our economy (and life) is made up of frivolous things and activities, like entertainment, sports, eating out, vacations, etc.

Yes. Maybe people will sit back and re-assess what “quality of life” means to them.

Perhaps it’s all about watching NFL games on the enormous TV in my living room while I complain about the job I hate and munch on pricey appetizers from Whole Foods. Maybe that makes me happy.

Or perhaps it’s all about teaching my child how to make lasagna and discussing plans for a camping trip. Maybe that makes me happy.

Everybody wants to be happy. A lot of people pursue behavior patterns — in an effort to be happy — that make them miserable. Maybe people will see it when they slow down.
