Coronavirus is turning badass NYC women into housewives
The Washington Post ^ | April 28, 2020 | Suzy Weiss

Three months ago, if you’d told Queens DJ Kiki Feliz that she’d soon master boeuf bourguignon in her tiny kitchen, “I would’ve laughed in your face,” says the 27-year-old. “Before the pandemic, I think I’ve grocery shopped about 10 times in 3 ½ years of living in New York … and now I’m in the kitchen all day, every day.”

Now that she’s had a taste of the domestic life, she finds herself wanting more.

“I’ve thought about making bread,” says Feliz, who has yet to tackle the ubiquitous quarantine sourdough. “I definitely have plans to start a garden, and I want to teach myself how to sew, too.”

...For her, quarantine’s brought her more than just a new hobby: It’s made her re-evaluate the city’s rat race and what she wants her life to look like post-pandemic.

“I’m going to try and move a little slower after this,” says Kang.

...When this is all over, she says, “I want to live on a farm, adopt a bunch of kids and make art.”

When this is all over, I wonder how many high flying, you go girl type women will decide they want to stay home and raise the kids?

More than one, I suspect.

This could be an unexpected change due to the pandemic.

They might even have to actually raise their kids instead of turning them over to daycare! Imagine that. Kids raised by their parents...strange concept, right?

This is sad, to me. Basic life skills like cooking were ingrained in us at a very early age by our grandparents. Domesticity has been supplanted by an always-on, always-available culture of consumption. These people want to “move on out to the country,” but they’d be eaten alive within a year by the oftentimes arduous tasks required of actually maintaining a farm.

I truly hope more people move away from the cities due to recent events, but they best leave their politics at the city limits. Personal responsibility doesn’t jibe well with socialism.

She's from the city and now wants to live on a farm and make "art."

If you haven't lived on a farm and used to having all of the conveniences at your disposal, you will soon find out that it's not what you think. I see visions of Green Acres. But you go ahead lady.

In the eyes of the Washington Post, only liberal women and minorities can be considered “badass”.

Notice the “jobs” these people had?
Especially “university administrator”?
And New Yorkers actually think they contribute to society?

Bwahahahahahahahahah!

I think society has been going in a bad direction for most of my life. I’m not terribly optimistic that this virus will turn it around, but that would be nice.

I don’t think we need 40 hr work weeks.
I don’t think we need two income families.

I think a lot of jobs are BS jobs.
I think we collect too much useless “stuff”.

I think a lot of families could devote more attention to raising children, growing food, and cooking food, and less attention to the corporate rate race.

Smaller government, more tariffs, and less taxes would help.

I know that in my daughter’s rural area, a number of moms have discovered how poorly educated their kids are, how easy it is to teach them at home, and are NOT sending them back to school.

pretty funny...I’ve been a housewife for 16 years, cooking, laundry, schooling my son, scouts etc...

it’s a pretty good lifestyle.
For us the pandemic had little effect other than less errands & some financial considerations , yeast & flour shortages...

Years ago a friend was spending $40,000 to “remodel his kitchen”. I told him he should just take it out and turn it into a “pool room” because a pool table was much cheaper and he could spend the $40,000 eating all his meals out and it would be cheaper for YEARS. His wife wasn’t amused but I told her, “Just think of it, you’ll never have to cook or wash dishes again.”

Sounds like it’s all they do in NYC. These women are “discovering” their kitchen is what it sounds like.

She's from the city and now wants to live on a farm and make "art."

Living on a farm and making art is not difficult whey you have a steady income from your 401k and investments you made from the income in the city.

They may be waking up to the realization women have been conned for the last 40 years.

“Hey, maybe we shouldn’t have voluntarily killed our kids and destroyed the nuclear family . . . “
