New York state refused to send nursing home’s COVID-19 patients to USNS Comfort

New York health officials were warned in writing that a Brooklyn nursing home where 55 patients have died of coronavirus was overwhelmed — weeks before it began topping the state’s official list of resident COVID-19 deaths, damning emails show.

Cobble Hill Health Center CEO Donny Tuchman sent a desperate email to state Health Department officials on April 9, asking if there was “a way for us to send our suspected covid patients” to the hospital built inside the Javits Convention Center or the US Naval hospital ship Comfort — the under-utilized federal medical facilities on Manhattan’s West Side.

“We don’t have the ability to cohort right now based on staffing and we really want to protect our other patients,” Tuchman wrote in a chain of the emails reviewed by The Post.

He was denied.

At the time Tuchman sent his plea, only 134 of the 1,000 beds at the Javits Center were full and the Comfort — which had just been reconfigured to treat up to 500 COVID-19 patients — had a mere 62 on board.

Adding insult to injury, the Navy hospital ship wound up treating just 179 patients before Gov. Cuomo on Tuesday said it was no longer needed.

It was all over the news. NY threw a hissy fit and Trump changed it so that the Navy would take COVID-19 patients. That meant they had to swap out many of the doctors that were initially trauma and ER doctors. Money.

Perhaps it would have prevented more nursing home residents from coming down with the virus, and dying.

Without a doubt.

Trump gave his approval on April 6, IIRC.

Check out stories around that date. You should find plenty.

And there is the state of the art field hospital constructed by Samaritan's Purse (Franklin Graham's organization). It was shunned because the sophisticates viewed it as "too Christian and too hillbilly".

They completely ignored that Samaritan's Purse hospitals are open to all and do not discriminate. Of course Chick-fil-a pulled the same baloney on the Salvation Army.

>I thought those ships were reserved for NON Covid patients
*********************************************
>Initially, yes. But Trump authorized a change to COVID-19 patients.

AFTER *NYC* botched their screening protocols and sent infected patients to the then pristine ship.

Instead these patients are going back to nursing homes, along with body bags.

How creepy that Cuomo sends a body bag, along with the infected patient, to these nursing homes.

I wonder if there are any shysters left in NYC honest enough to file wrongful death suits over this.

Maybe that is one reason Cuomo doesn’t want to be the dem niminee.

The story started out that NYC supposedly made an error and mistakenly sent some Covid patients to the Comfort. Shortly thereafter (a day?)it was reported that Trump made the Comfort for covid patients. The original mistake was never mentioned. I’d bet it was an inside deal by Trump to cover for NYC.
