Governors feel heat to reopen from protesters, president

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Stores in Texas can soon begin selling merchandise with curbside service, and hospitals can resume nonessential surgeries. In Florida, people are returning to beaches and parks. And protesters are clamoring for more.

Governors eager to rescue their economies and feeling heat from President Donald Trump are moving to ease restrictions meant to control the spread of the coronavirus, even as new hot spots emerge and experts warn that moving too fast could prove disastrous.

Adding to the pressure are protests against stay-at-home orders organized by small-government groups and Trump supporters. They staged demonstrations Saturday in several cities after the president urged them to “liberate” three states led by Democratic governors.

Protests happened in Republican-led states, too, including at the the Texas Capitol and in front of the Indiana governor’s home. Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott already said that restrictions will begin easing next week. Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb — who signed an agreement with six other Midwestern states to coordinate reopening — said he would extend his stay-at-home order until May 1.

I always find it interesting the moniker, “handle”, that posters use. I try to pronounce them when I open the thread.
I have been calling you “miditar” when I just realized there’s another “m” there. I’ll have to change your name.

This was to slow the spread to avoid overwhelming the healthcare system. That goal has been largely accomplished in many area.

Let’s get moving again with reasonable precautions.

and hospitals can resume nonessential surgeries.

I know its not Texas, but my neighbor's son (27 year old Down Syndrome) needed to have LUNG surgery. It was deemed nonessential six weeks ago. Well 10 days ago, he was rushed to the hospital with pneumonia, which would not have happened had he gotten the original surgery timely. Had the surgery he should have had six weeks ago. Then, while in the hospital, developed an infection in his stomach. Then developed sepsis. Now they need to do additional surgery, but are going to put it off for a couple weeks to allow him to recover.

Poor kid. I hope my neighbor sues the doctor(s) that determined his original lung correction was not essential.

LMAO “small government groups”. Are they the opposite of big government groups? It is just like there is a “right wing” according to the left that causes all problems and is “extreme” but I NEVER hear “left wing”. Furthermore, liberals now want to be called “progressive”. Language is so important in framing argument. The left masters it and easily seduces the fidiot class of American.

Trump wants to rebuild the economy while the Democrat governors want to destroy it, seeing it as the road to the White House.

experts warn that moving too fast could prove disastrous.

yeah, “experts”. That would be the same “experts” who were 1000% wrong about just about every aspect of this “crisis.”

To hell with what the “experts” say.
